Job Description

Quality Engineer - Site Based - Middlesbrough

Mint Selection are partnered with a renewable energy business who are seeking a Quality Manager to oversee all quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities on a 60MW+ solar PV project based in Middlesbrough.

This role will be responsible for ensuring that all construction, installation, and commissioning activities are delivered in full compliance with contractual requirements, industry standards, and internal quality processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all QA/QC activities across the full project lifecycle, from mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
• Conduct daily site inspections to monitor installation quality, workmanship, and compliance with design specifications.
• Oversee and execute Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), including coordination of joint inspections with client representatives.
• Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters with subcontractors, and third-party inspectors.
• Manage quality documentation, ensuring accurate, structured storage and timely communication to all stakeholders.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to quality standards across all site activities.

Technical Responsibilities

• Inspect and verify electrical installations, including:
• Cable installation and routing
• Terminations and connections
• Overall workmanship quality
• Review and interpret electrical drawings and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) to ensure installation compliance.
• Conduct and oversee testing and inspection activities, identifying defects and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards, including BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).

Candidate Requirements

• Exposure to solar PV projects or electrical infrastructure is highly desirable.
• Recognised electrical qualifications, including:
• 18th Edition (BS7671)
• City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent
• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations (or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of QA/QC processes, ITPs, and audit procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Experience managing quality documentation systems and handover processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
