Job Description

Location: Onsite, Dearborn, MI - This position is 100% onsite.

Position Title: Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer – Body Exterior / Quality

Position Overview

Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineers are part of North American Engineering organization and are fully embedded within the Vehicle Assembly Plant. Acting as the first line of defense for functional system quality, the PVT Engineer works directly with the production team to identify, analyze, and resolve quality issues impacting current production vehicles.

This role is heavily focused on Body Exterior systems, with an emphasis on static and dynamic sealing for Bronco roofs, including water, squeak & rattle (S&R), and wind noise testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on‑site quality engineering lead supporting the Vehicle Assembly Plant and integrated remote build centers
  • Analyze and resolve component and process-related quality issues impacting vehicle production
  • Partner with Body Exterior Engineering to deliver quality objectives, with a focus on sealing performance and durability
  • Conduct daily reviews of incoming warranty claims data; review customer and dealership feedback and ensure accurate claim binning
  • Coordinate with dealerships for parts collection and repair diagnostics; participate in customer call-backs to clarify feedback
  • Perform returned‑part reviews, root cause analysis, and develop Interim Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA)
  • Support Stop Ships, Stop Builds, quality campaigns, audits, and other plant quality initiatives
  • Lead engineering commodity changes for minor product launches and cost‑reduction actions in current production vehicles
  • Support Variability Reduction Team (VRT) activities for assigned subsystems
  • Work closely with supplier partners to address and resolve subsystem quality concerns
  • Lead engineering trials and implement running changes for assigned subsystems
  • Issue Engineering Alerts and initiate engineering authorizations to support quality improvements
  • Maintain subsystem and Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) quality documentation
  • Prepare and present reports and presentations for multiple levels of leadership, including VRT reviews, Vehicle Quality Reviews, and Engineering Manager reviews

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Product Development, Quality, Program, or Manufacturing Engineering environments
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering teams

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Design Release Engineer (DRE)
  • Proficiency with WERS release tools
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field
