Quality Engineer – Cable Assemblies & Electrical Connectors

Join a global manufacturer delivering high-reliability engineered products. Our client is an international manufacturer of specialist electrical and interconnect solutions used across Oil & Gas, industrial energy and data centre infrastructure. They are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support cable assembly, wire harness and electrical connector manufacturing within their Des Plaines operation.

 

About the Role

You will provide hands-on quality engineering support across manufacturing and the supplier network, ensuring products meet demanding customer, performance and regulatory standards. The role will focus on manufacturing quality, root-cause analysis, supplier performance and continuous improvement within a fast-paced electromechanical environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

·       Provide quality support for cable assemblies, wire harnesses and electrical connectors.

·       Ensure compliance with IPC-A-620 / WHMA-A-620 and relevant quality standards.

·       Support FAI, PPAP, qualification testing and quality audits.

·       Lead root-cause investigations and CAPA using 5-Why, 8D, FMEA and DMAIC.

·       Support soldering, crimping, overmoulding, potting and electrical termination processes.

·       Develop control plans, PFMEAs, inspection plans and quality documentation.

·       Manage supplier quality, non-conformances and corrective actions.

·       Support new product introductions and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Qualifications & Experience

·       Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.

·       3+ years' Quality Engineering experience within cable assembly, wire harness, connector or electromechanical manufacturing.

·       Strong knowledge of IPC-A-620 / WHMA-A-620.

·       Experience with FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, 8D and root-cause methodologies.

·       Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and specifications.

·       Experience with Oil & Gas, industrial energy or data centre products advantageous.

·       Knowledge of ATEX, IECEx, UL, REACH or RoHS beneficial.
