Overview:
An established manufacturing organization is seeking a Quality Engineer to drive improvements in production processes and ensure compliance with industry and customer quality standards. This role includes managing quality tasks and projects, analyzing manufacturing data, resolving production issues, and collaborating across departments and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead a supplier quality management program, including vendor qualification, audits, and non-conformance resolution.
- Partner with Purchasing, Estimating, and Project Management to onboard new vendors and maintain vendor performance.
- Utilize quality tools such as Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) to resolve operational issues.
- Develop and deliver training on quality procedures and industry standards.
- Review, implement, and monitor process and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in internal audits and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of machining principles and familiarity with shop tools (gauges, calipers, micrometers, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in technical report writing, problem-solving, and planning within a 3–6-month horizon.
- Experience applying Lean manufacturing tools and driving process change.
- Proficient in root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Cause and Corrective Action (CCA), and FMEA.
Qualifications:
- Background in welding, joining, metalworking, manual assembly, or painting.
- Knowledge of welding metallurgy, and ability to construct PQRs and WPSs.
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Gage R&R, MSA, and vendor recovery plans.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Minitab, or SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience with precision inspection tools such as a Faro Arm.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills, including comfort working in matrixed reporting structures.
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily computer-based work, with frequent standing, walking, kneeling, and squatting.
- Occasional hands-on work using basic hand tools.
- Tolerance for exposure to manufacturing environments, including fumes, noise, and temperature fluctuations.
