Description of a Typical Day:

The QC Inspector is responsible for inspecting machined copper and aluminum electrical connectors manufactured on-site, along with components and raw material received from external suppliers.  A typical day for this person involves checking parts for quality defects, using hand-held gaging equipment such as calipers, thread plugs, and gage pins while referencing blueprints and other quality documentation for product specifications.  The inspector also performs sorting of parts for known quality defects, and basic reworks such as deburring, remarking, or re-tapping of parts.  Periodically, the inspector conducts gage calibrations along with general walk-throughs of the warehouse for unlabeled product or to locate missing product.  On occasion, there may be other tasks requested that are within the training level and physical capabilities of the inspector.  Most work is performed in a seated position at a workbench located in a quiet, climate-controlled room (heating and air conditioning).

 

Requirements:

·         Strong observational skills and attention to detail – these are the most important skills required.

·         Problem solving skills.

·         Ability to use quality gaging equipment such as calipers, thread gages, and gage pins; or, the willingness and ability to learn how to use these gages as taught by Quality Leadership.

·         Ability to read and understand manufacturing blueprints.

·         Basic computer skills such as navigating file menus, sending emails, and using Microsoft Word and Excel.

·         Good interpersonal communication skills – the inspector must mesh well with the other QC inspectors.

·         Ability to work independently without requiring constant guidance or supervision from QC Leadership.

·         Ability to read at the sixth-grade level, and understand written instructions in the English .

·         Ability to speak and understand verbal instructions in the English .

·         Maintain an organized workspace.

·         Ability to lift and handle pails of parts that weigh up to 35 lbs.

·         Ability to walk up to one mile per day (moving parts from machines to work area, obtaining necessary gaging equipment, and similar tasks).

·         Familiarity with ISO 9001 is a plus, but not necessary.
