Purchasing & Planning Manager
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing & Planning Manager to join our team at a leading food & beverage manufacturing company. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely procurement and availability of raw materials, packaging, and other components required for production. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of supply chain processes, vendor relations, and production planning in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain material requirements planning (MRP) based on production schedules and forecasts.
- Purchase raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and indirect goods from approved suppliers to meet production needs.
- Monitor inventory levels and lead times to ensure optimal stock levels and avoid shortages or excess.
- Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and warehouse teams to align material availability with production requirements.
- Communicate and negotiate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, order changes, and delivery schedules.
- Analyze usage trends and adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records in ERP/MRP systems, including purchase orders, inventory transactions, and supplier data.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and supply chain optimization opportunities.
- Ensure all materials meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, SQF, GFSI).
- Participate in supplier evaluations and support audits as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in material planning or procurement
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of MRP principles, inventory control, and procurement processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Understanding of food safety and quality regulations is a plus.
Qualifications:
- APICS/CPIM, CSCP, or other supply chain certifications.
- Experience with Just-in-Time (JIT), Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies.
- Knowledge of sustainable sourcing practices and vendor risk management.
