Position Summary: Purchasing Manager (On-Site or Hybrid considered)

Job Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all purchasing activities for our operations. This critical role ensures the timely and cost-effective acquisition of high-quality materials and components, supporting production schedules and maintaining optimal inventory levels. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in manufacturing purchasing, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, with a significant advantage given to experience with MiSys. This role requires a proactive leader who can build strong supplier relationships, drive cost savings, and contribute to our continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging strategic inventory management techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Relationship Management & Negotiation:
    • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
    • Lead all supplier negotiations, including pricing, terms (payment, delivery, quality, etc.), and contracts, to secure the most favorable agreements for our business.
    • Identify and onboard new suppliers, conducting thorough evaluations of their capabilities, quality, and reliability.
    • Manage supplier performance, addressing any issues related to quality, delivery, or cost.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Cost Optimization:
    • Develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives to identify new opportunities for cost reduction, quality improvement, and supply chain efficiency.
    • Conduct market research to stay abreast of industry trends, material availability, and pricing fluctuations.
    • Analyze spending patterns and identify areas for consolidation and/or alternative sourcing.
  • MRP & Inventory Management:
    • Utilize and optimize Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems to forecast material needs, generate purchase orders, and manage inventory levels effectively.
    • Significant experience with MiSys is a strong plus.
    • Collaborate closely with production, lease business and distribution teams to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules while minimizing excess inventory.
    • Oversee the accuracy of purchasing data within the MRP system.
  • Production Scheduling & Collaboration:
    • Work closely with production planning and scheduling teams to ensure a seamless flow of materials and components.
    • Understand production demands and proactively address potential supply chain disruptions.
    • Participate in production meetings to provide updates on material availability and lead times.
  • Lean Principles & Continuous Improvement:
    • Apply lean manufacturing concepts to purchasing processes, identifying and eliminating waste, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Promote a culture of efficiency and cost-effectiveness within the purchasing.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
    • Generate and analyze purchasing reports, including cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory turns.
    • Provide regular updates to senior management on purchasing activities and key metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field is a plus.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience with MiSys (Manufacturing Inventory System) is a significant advantage.
  • Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills, with a track record of achieving favorable terms and cost savings.
  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing methodologies and supplier qualification processes.
  • Experience with production scheduling and its relationship to material availability.
  • Solid understanding and practical application of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of Crystal Reports is an advantage
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as CPSM, CPIM, CSCP, or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt are a significant plus.
