Position: Protection & Controls Engineer
Location: Hybrid (3 days in-office per week) – Personal vehicle may be driven with mileage reimbursed
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design, analysis, and implementation of protection and control relaying systems for both new and existing substations. This role emphasizes the development of Protection Settings and SCADA Settings across high-voltage transmission facilities ranging from 15kV to 345kV. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles, and will be capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design protection and control relaying applications, including the preparation of settings calculations and analysis in accordance with industry standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.).

  • Develop, review, and release engineering designs for substations, including drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation.

  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance to field personnel during project implementation.

  • Manage multiple projects across various stages of design to meet schedule deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Conduct engineering studies and non-routine projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating technical and analytical competency for assignments of increasing complexity.

  • Apply knowledge of CAD software and engineering tools to produce efficient, accurate designs.

  • Collaborate with team members to share expertise, ensure design quality, and foster a positive working environment.

  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and sketches related to project analyses.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships to coordinate work activities and support company goals professionally.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer; Master’s degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of a B.S. degree.

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience, or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration.

  • Proficiency in protective relay settings, SCADA systems, and power system design for high-voltage substations.

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex projects independently.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
