Overview
We are seeking experienced Protection and Control Field Testing Engineers to support high voltage substation projects across transmission, distribution, and environments. This role is ideal for engineers with strong relay testing experience who enjoy hands on field work, nationwide travel, and critical responsibility in maintaining grid reliability.
You will perform field testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation for a wide range of protection systems and relay schemes at substations from 15 kV to 500 kV.
Responsibilities
• Test and commission Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
• Perform hands on protective relay testing using Omicron CMC 256 or 356, or Doble F6150
• Test relay families including SEL 311L, SEL 387, SEL 487, SEL 421, SEL 351S, GE L90, GE D60, and others
• Execute control scheme testing, CT and PT circuit verification, relay calibration, and static and dynamic testing
• Support Project Leads and Field Supervisors on active field assignments
• Complete Job Hazard Analysis and follow all safety requirements
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and logic diagrams
• Record accurate test data and produce detailed field reports
• Manage administrative tasks including timecards, expenses, and project documentation
Required Experience
• 5 plus years of electrical field testing experience within substations
• Strong proficiency with SEL, GE, Basler, and Beckwith relay families
• Hands on relay testing experience using Omicron or Doble equipment
• Familiarity with NETA, IEEE, NFPA, and other industry standards
• Experience working across voltages ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV
• Ability to use software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, or AcSELerator
