THE JOB: This position is responsible for performing property maintenance inspections to ensure that business as well as property owners are complying with the Village’s current codes and ordinances. The inspector will be assigned to a specific area of the Village to enforce property maintenance, to ensure properties are in compliance, and to help maintain and improve Village neighborhood values. This person responds to residential complaints regarding public nuisance and safety issues.
JOB DUTIES: Performs inspections of homes and businesses both physically and visually by examining exterior of the structures for code compliance with building regulations and Village ordinances. Pursues all failed inspections to ensure code compliance. Completes inspection reports and maintains record logs on all inspections performed. Writes Property Maintenance Citations for exterior of structures not in compliance with International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) as well as Village Ordinances. For example, exterior not being maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary condition. Responds to residential complaints regarding homes not maintained such as tall grass, weeds, animal waste, and inoperable/dismantled vehicles stored on private property. Ensures that vacant properties and the lot are being maintained and help understand notices of citations received. This position works 80% in the field driving a Village vehicle, and 20% in the office.
KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION: Minimum AA/AS in property management/maintenance. Must possess ICC Certification in Building Inspection/Property Maintenance. Must have experience in building and construction trades. Must have a driver’s license in good standing.
SKILLS: Minimum advanced level in MS Office Suite. Must have exceptional customer service skills to communicate with in a respectful manner. Bilingual skills are strongly .
