Job Description
42,839 per annum (with additional market supplement of £5,000)Full time x 37 hours \n East Devon’s Housing Service has made significant progress in recent years, transforming the way we support our tenants and communities. \n Join us at this key moment and be part of shaping the future of council housing in East Devon. \n Our Housing Service is made up of skilled professionals from diverse backgrounds who bring energy and expertise to their roles every day. The primary function of our Property & Asset team is to deliver a decent home for all.
We want to ensure our housing stock is compliant with all statutory regulations and are safe and secure homes to live in. We have approximately 4,200 properties including houses, bungalow and flats as well as a number of garages, houses of multiple occupancy, community centres, sewage treatment plants and communal grounds. \n This includes the planning, procurement, and delivery of mechanical and electrical (M&E) upgrade works across the Council’s housing stock.
This includes heating systems, fire safety systems, security systems, lifts, and renewable energy installations. The role ensures compliance with statutory obligations, improves asset performance, and enhances tenant safety and satisfaction. The role includes the supervision of contractors and consultants to ensure that work to Council homes is undertaken to a high standard.
Update procedures, and ensure that best value is provided by Consultants and Contractors. Ensure that planned maintenance projects comply with current legislation, and advice from Central Government and all pertinent statutory bodies. \n Our dedicated surveyors are proactive and able to make informed decisions based on their industry knowledge and expertise.
They are self-starters who are able to manage their time effectively and work with others collaboratively, using their excellent communications skills to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and, most importantly, our and customers. \n You are a qualified Mechanical & Electrical Services Engineer/Surveyor with a solid understanding of CDM regulations, building standards, and housing legislation, and you’re committed to delivering high-quality planned maintenance and improvement works. With excellent communication and organisational skills, you’re confident managing contractors, preparing specifications, and engaging with tenants to ensure a customer-focused service.
\n You take a proactive approach to problem-solving, prioritise health and safety, and are passionate about improving housing standards and sustainability across East Devon’s property portfolio. \n A driving licence is essential to this role as you’ll need to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act). \n Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that ‘EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members’ and that’s certainly true!
