Summary:
Our client is looking for a Project & Process Safety Engineer to join their team! This role is responsible for leading process safety initiatives related to dust hazard analysis, fire and explosion prevention, and contractor safety across industrial facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background and experience in risk mitigation within heavy industrial environments. Must be able to travel 50% of the time, which could be two weeks out of each month.
Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) plans for US and Canadian facilities in coordination with internal teams and external consultants
- Collaborate with fire and explosion prevention specialists to identify and implement risk mitigation solutions
- Work with internal technical and engineering teams to create installation plans, budgets, and timelines based on DHA results
- Conduct regular engagement meetings with mill teams to ensure follow-through on safety findings
- Schedule and coordinate internal and external process safety audits at appropriate intervals
- Lead AON corrective action plan execution with divisions
- Manage the contractor safety program across all facilities and projects
- Support divisional and project teams in understanding and complying with contractor safety procedures
- Assist with contractor-related incident investigations and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate contractor safety records for all projects
- Perform internal contractor safety audits at designated frequencies
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of experience in an industrial or project role, 5+ years
- Experience in a heavy industrial environment required
- Familiarity with NFPA dust hazard regulations such as NFPA 68 and 654 or equivalent (e.g., ATEX)
- Experience in risk assessment and management of change in industrial settings
- Proficient in Office 365, including MS Project and Smart Sheets
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Proven ability to speak confidently to groups and lead discussions - Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a forward-thinking mindset
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Education/Certification Requirements:
- A Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or a related field, is required
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in an industrial or project role
