We have an exciting new opportunity for a driven, organized, and people-focused Project Manager to oversee our landscape and construction crews and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, balancing field leadership, customer communication, crew development, and production management. The Project Manager plays a critical role in turning plans into reality while upholding Ground Builders’ standards for craftsmanship, efficiency, and client satisfaction. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project & Production Management: Plan, schedule, and manage landscape construction and design/build projects from kickoff through completion. Maintain and communicate project schedules while accounting for weather, material delays, and staffing needs. Monitor job costs, labor hours, and materials to keep projects on budget. Conduct daily jobsite inspections to ensure quality, safety, and proper installation. Prepare daily and weekly work plans, manage change orders, and coordinate project handoffs and communication with the sales team.
- Crew Leadership & Development: Lead and support landscape construction crews to meet production goals. Ensure proper staffing, resources, and materials are in place. Assist with layout, troubleshooting, and installation best practices. Train and coach crews on standards, safety, and company policies. Provide feedback, address employee issues, support performance management, and assist with hiring, onboarding, and annual reviews.
- Customer Communication & Quality Assurance: Serve as the primary customer contact during construction. Communicate proactively on progress, schedules, and changes. Address concerns promptly and perform routine in-progress and post-installation quality checks.
- Equipment, Materials & Logistics: Coordinate material ordering, deliveries, and returns while maintaining accurate job costing. Ensure crews are properly stocked with tools and materials. Track tools and equipment, oversee truck and trailer organization, and coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs. Submit receipts and documentation accurately.
- Snow Operations (Winter): Oversee a designated portion of snow removal operations. Assist with winter crew coordination, equipment readiness, and site quality checks. Participate in snow removal operations as required.
- General & Administrative: Approve time off while maintaining coverage. Communicate schedule changes, staffing needs, and risks to management. Support continuous improvement efforts and perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITY
- KNOWLEDGE: Consistent work history with a minimum of 5 years of landscape installation experience in a role, such as Production Manager, Construction Manager, Project Manager, or similar role.
- SKILLS: Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams, with strong conflict resolution skills. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.Familiarity with landscaping design software and project management tools. Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment and thrive under pressure through a commitment to excellence. Desire to be a key member of a growing, team-oriented company.
- ABILITY: This role is onsite and requires reporting to our office in Waterloo, NE. A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a felony/misdemeanor background and driving (Motor Vehicle Record) check. Typical hours are Monday-Friday 7 am-4:30 pm, with occasional weekends. Extended hours may be required to keep projects on schedule. Year-round position with seasonal variation in workload.
