Freelance Project Manager - Water Sector\n Rate: £450-£550/day (Inside IR35)\n Location: South East England (Hybrid working depending on project)\n Contract Length: Initial 12 months, potential for extension\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects as part of a long-term framework agreement valued at £3.1bn. You'll manage resources, ensure safe and high-quality project execution, and support stakeholder engagement across all levels to meet key delivery milestones and maximise customer satisfaction.\n\nThis freelance opportunity will see you working across either a portfolio of smaller projects or a major single scheme, depending on scope and complexity.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nManage and support project teams to achieve delivery goals and maintain high morale.\n\nEnsure compliance with health & safety, quality, environmental, and risk management standards.\n\nMonitor performance against financial and programme targets and implement corrective actions as required.\n\nWork collaboratively with design, delivery, and client teams to drive successful project outcomes.\n\nOversee procurement and resource planning for equipment, services, and subcontractors.\n\nLead and promote an inclusive, diverse and supportive team environment.\n\nEnsure all project documentation and compliance records are up to date and auditable.\n\nProvide clear and effective communication to clients and stakeholders at all levels.\n\nChampion best practices in health, safety, and wellbeing.\n\nAbout the Framework\n\nYou'll be delivering works under a major long-term infrastructure framework in the South East, focusing on water supply and wastewater treatment upgrades. Projects include capacity increases, safety improvements, water recycling, and resilience enhancements.\n\nKey stats about the client's operations:\n\n2.5 million water customers\n\n4.7 million wastewater service users\n\n458 water treatment works\n\n53,000+ km pipeline network\n\nSkills & Experience Required\n\nStrong track record of project delivery in the Water sector or similar infrastructure environments.\n\nProven leadership and mentoring experience in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.\n\nAble to plan effectively and adjust in fast-paced settings.\n\nConfident communicator across all organisational levels.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication.\n\nUnderstanding of current HSE legislation and environmental standards.\n\nCompetent in construction and project management software.\n\nDegree or equivalent in construction, engineering or related field .\n\nFull UK driving licence.\n\nAttributes for Success\n\nCollaborative: You build effective relationships across teams and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.\n\nTrusted: You deliver what you promise, acting safely, ethically, and with integrity.\n\nFocused: You work with clarity, structure and discipline to meet and exceed client expectations
