THE JOB
The Estimator/Project Manager will play a dual role in both the preconstruction and execution phases of HVAC retrofit and piping projects. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this individual will provide technical estimating support, develop bid strategies, and lead the construction process through completion. Responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications, preparing accurate labor and material estimates, value engineering solutions, managing subcontractors and procurement, controlling project schedules and budgets, and ensuring strong client relationships. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, technical, and client-facing environment with a strong understanding of HVAC systems.
THE QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in estimating, engineering, construction management, or business management with a mechanical/HVAC focus
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC plan & spec construction, including design documents, RFQs, RFPs, and code compliance
- Proven experience with mechanical retrofitting of commercial and institutional buildings (e.g., hospitals, data centers, universities)
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and develop accurate estimates and schedules
- Skilled in creating material takeoffs, cost breakdowns, and risk assessments
- Experience with equipment selection, subcontractor coordination, and procurement planning
- Proficiency in Quickpen, Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead across internal teams and maintain client satisfaction
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and construction industry best practices
