Project Manager – Microgrid Development (Energy)

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Employment Type: Full‐Time (Onsite / Hybrid as required)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong energy background to support a multi‐phase microgrid development program in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This role will lead project execution from development through procurement, construction oversight, regulatory compliance, and closeout. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in energy engineering and construction, outstanding stakeholder management skills, and proven leadership on complex infrastructure programs. Previous experience with PREPA or a similar senior‐level utility or power authority environment is highly desirable.

Primary Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead end‐to‐end project management for microgrid development projects, from feasibility and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and execution plans
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including engineers, EPC contractors, vendors, and consultants

Procurement & Contract Management

  • Support procurement strategy, RFP development, vendor evaluations, and contract negotiations
  • Oversee contractor performance to ensure scope, schedule, budget, and quality compliance
  • Manage change orders, claims, and contract closeout activities

Construction Oversight

  • Provide on‐site and remote oversight of construction activities for microgrid and power system installations
  • Ensure adherence to design documents, technical specifications, safety standards, and project milestones
  • Collaborate with quality, safety, and commissioning teams to ensure successful execution

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Puerto Rico, U.S. federal, and local regulations, codes, and permitting requirements
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, utilities, and stakeholders (including PREPA, where applicable)
  • Support environmental, safety, and interconnection compliance requirements

Stakeholder & Reporting

  • Serve as primary point of contact for internal leadership and external stakeholders
  • Prepare clear project status reports, executive briefings, and risk assessments
  • Proactively identify issues and implement mitigation strategies

Project Closeout

  • Oversee testing, commissioning, punch list resolution, and final acceptance
  • Ensure proper documentation, as‐built records, and lessons learned are completed
  • Support transition to operations and maintenance teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in energy engineering, power , transmission/distribution, or energy infrastructure construction
  • Proven experience managing complex capital projects in the energy or utility sector
  • Strong understanding of power systems, renewable energy, and/or microgrid technologies
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, schedules, contractors, and risk
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders in a fast‐paced environment
  • Willingness to work onsite in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as required

Qualifications:

  • PREPA experience or senior‐level experience with a utility, power authority, or comparable energy organization
  • Direct experience with microgrid development, distributed energy resources (DERs), batteries, or renewables
  • Familiarity with Puerto Rico energy regulations and permitting processes
  • PMP or similar project management certification
  • Engineering degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, or related field)
  • Experience managing federally funded or compliance‐driven infrastructure programs
