Project Manager in Elk Mound

Job DescriptionJob Description

PROJECT MANAGER

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, highly execution-oriented Project Manager to take ownership of multiple active business projects and drive them from approved project plan through successful completion.

This is not simply a project tracking or administrative position. The Project Manager will be responsible for executing project plans, coordinating people and resources, maintaining accountability, resolving obstacles, and ensuring projects actually get completed on time and to the required standard.

The successful candidate must be comfortable taking an established objective or project plan and turning it into action without requiring constant direction from ownership.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of professional project management experience
  • Demonstrated record of successfully managing projects from initiation through completion
  • Must be able to provide specific examples of projects personally managed and successfully completed
  • Proven ability to execute established project plans, not simply create schedules, update task lists, or conduct meetings
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong ability to establish priorities and determine what needs to happen next
  • Demonstrated ability to assign responsibilities, establish deadlines, and hold team members accountable
  • Strong organizational, follow-up, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify project delays, dependencies, and roadblocks before they jeopardize completion
  • Experience using modern project management software such as ClickUp, Asana, Monday.com, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established authority

Primary Responsibilities

The Project Manager will:

  • Take ownership of assigned projects and drive them through completion
  • Review existing project plans and convert them into clear, executable work
  • Establish project priorities, milestones, deadlines, dependencies, and deliverables
  • Determine the specific actions required to move each project forward
  • Assign and coordinate tasks with internal employees, contractors, vendors, and outside partners
  • Follow up aggressively on outstanding tasks and commitments
  • Hold responsible parties accountable for deadlines and deliverables
  • Maintain accurate project status within the company's project management system
  • Identify stalled projects and immediately determine what is preventing progress
  • Resolve routine project obstacles independently
  • Escalate decisions requiring ownership or executive approval with a clear explanation and recommended course of action
  • Coordinate activities across multiple departments, vendors, and outside organizations
  • Maintain a clear view of all active projects and their relative priorities
  • Provide management with concise updates identifying:
    • What has been completed
    • What is currently being worked on
    • What is due next
    • What is behind schedule
    • What requires management involvement
  • Ensure commitments made during meetings are converted into assigned tasks with owners and deadlines
  • Verify that deliverables are actually completed rather than simply marked complete
  • Keep projects moving until the intended business result has been achieved

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position is measured by completed projects and business results, not by the number of meetings held, spreadsheets maintained, or tasks entered into project management software.

The Project Manager should be able to receive a project plan and take responsibility for answering:

What needs to happen next?
Who needs to do it?
When does it need to be completed?
What is preventing it from getting done?
What needs to happen to remove that obstacle?

The expectation is that the Project Manager drives the process rather than waits for management to drive it.

Required Project Management Experience

Applicants should be prepared to discuss at least three significant projects they personally managed, including:

  • Project objective
  • Their specific role and responsibilities
  • Project size and complexity
  • People, departments, vendors, or contractors involved
  • Timeline
  • Major problems or obstacles encountered
  • How they addressed those problems
  • Whether the project was completed on time and within expectations
  • Measurable business results achieved

Candidates who have primarily performed project administration, scheduling, meeting coordination, or task tracking without direct responsibility for successful project execution will not meet the requirements of this position.

Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing projects involving several of the following:

  • New product development and launches
  • Sales and marketing initiatives
  • Software, website, or application development
  • Manufacturing and operations
  • Retail or e-commerce
  • Vendor and contractor management
  • Business process implementation
  • ERP or technology implementations
  • Cross-functional projects involving multiple departments

Key Competencies

The ideal candidate is:

Execution focused — Turns plans into completed work.

Highly accountable — Takes ownership of outcomes rather than merely reporting problems.

Persistent — Follows through until commitments and deliverables are completed.

Organized — Can manage numerous projects, deadlines, dependencies, and responsible parties simultaneously.

Proactive — Identifies what needs attention before being instructed.

Decisive — Makes appropriate project-level decisions and knows when executive involvement is required.

Results oriented — Understands that the objective is successful project completion, not project administration.

Strong communicator — Provides concise, actionable communication without unnecessary meetings or reporting.

Critical Requirement

This position requires a Project Manager who can EXECUTE.

We are not looking for someone whose primary contribution is maintaining a project management system or telling management that a project is behind schedule.

We are looking for someone who can take an approved project plan, own it, organize it, coordinate the necessary people and resources, solve problems, maintain accountability, and drive it through successful completion.
