Project Manager (Electric Utility Background)
Job Description
We’re partnering with a top-tier engineering and construction firm focused on delivering complex power infrastructure across the Northeast. They’re currently hiring a Project Manager with deep experience in grid modernization, and a proven ability to lead substation, transmission, and distribution projects in the electric utility space.
This is a hybrid opportunity requiring 3 days onsite in Poughkeepsie, NY, with the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week. The ideal candidate brings strong field oversight experience and has successfully managed EPC contractors or subcontractors, while owning full project schedule, scope, and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead utility-scale grid modernization projects across substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
- Manage full project lifecycle—from kickoff to closeout—with accountability for schedule, budget, and scope.
- Coordinate closely with engineering teams, utility clients, and subcontractors to ensure high-quality, safe, and timely project execution.
- Oversee EPC contractors and subcontractor teams on-site, tracking performance, resolving issues, and maintaining compliance with utility standards.
- Provide regular updates and reporting to stakeholders, identifying and mitigating project risks.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of project management experience in the electric utility industry.
- Strong experience managing substation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated background in grid modernization and utility system upgrades.
- Experience managing EPC contractors and/or subcontractors on large-scale construction projects.
- Proficient in scheduling and cost management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Must be able to work onsite 3 days/week in Poughkeepsie, NY and travel to local project sites as needed.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline.
- PMP certification a plus.
- OSHA 30, utility safety training, or previous work with union crews is advantageous.
