Job Overview
The Project Manager is a hands-on role responsible for overseeing the installation of solar PV systems, ensuring quality, adherence to schedule, safety, and customer satisfaction. This position requires maintaining effective communication with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and company management. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to organize tasks, resolve issues, and manage multiple activities concurrently. A minimum of a two-year college degree or two years of relevant experience is required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Construction experience and a working knowledge of electrical wiring, the Electrical Code (NEC), permitting processes, and OSHA regulations are also essential.
This position is based in Cleveland, Ohio, and requires frequent travel to customer job sites across the region. The Project Manager will report directly to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Effectively manage projects ranging from $15,000 to over $2,000,000 from initiation through completion.
- Meet with clients to plan project implementation, including equipment staging, site work, safety planning, security measures, and system commissioning.
- Oversee project cost, quality, schedule, and safety to ensure alignment with overall objectives.
- Assist with the regulatory approval process as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project execution, setting expectations, coordinating deliveries and crew schedules, providing regular progress updates, and obtaining approvals for any scope changes.
- Report project status, financials, and timelines to senior management, and escalate issues for resolution as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with internal team members, subcontractors, and client representatives regarding project scope, deliverables, responsibilities, and commitments.
- Collaborate with system designers and the sales team to review and develop comprehensive project plans.
- Schedule subcontractors, coordinate equipment deliveries, and liaise with suppliers.
- Work closely with other Project Managers and the Operations Manager to coordinate project activities.
- Support the Sales and Design team with cost estimating and planning for new projects.
- Contribute to the selection, evaluation, and training of staff by providing input and feedback.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Manager or Crew Leader
- Solid knowledge of construction methods and techniques (e.g., carpentry, roofing, electrical, concrete, etc.)
- Strong facilitation and problem-solving skills with a high degree of adaptability
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong written communication skills
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-changing environment
- Capable of managing multiple concurrent projects and balancing competing priorities
- Experience coordinating with city and county permitting offices and inspectors
- Highly effective team player
Desired Qualification
- Project management training and certification are considered an asset
- Experience as an installer and/or Project Manager for solar PV systems
- Experience managing projects remotely
- Solid understanding of grid-tied and grid-interactive PV system design
- Prior experience as a Project Manager or Construction Foreman
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and structural plans, including familiarity with the NEC Code
- Construction experience with a strong understanding of building structures, permitting processes, and OSHA regulations
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement site-specific design modifications effectively
