Project Engineering Support Technician\n\nLocation: Durham\nSalary: circa £37,000 basic\nReporting to: Project Engineering Manager\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are seeking a hands-on and motivated Project Engineering Support Technician to join our clients busy Engineering team in Durham.\n\nThis role will support the installation of engineering solutions across new and existing plant, with a strong focus on mechanical installation, pipework, fabrication, and boiler monitoring. You will play a key part in delivering engineering projects while ensuring minimal disruption to production operations.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled engineer with a background in manufacturing, food production, or industrial environments who enjoys practical, project-based work. Ideally someone with pipework and fabrication experience.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Install pipework, valves, and associated utility systems\n\n * Assist with design and modification of pipework installations\n\n * Fabricate components, jigs, fixtures, and assemblies as required\n\n * Carry out welding, brazing, and soldering to complete installation works\n\n * Perform daily and weekly boiler checks and maintain accurate records\n\n * Support and coordinate with installation contractors\n\n * Liaise with Production and Planning teams to minimise disruption\n\n * Order materials and components for installation works\n\n * Install lagging where required\n\n * Operate MEWP equipment where necessary\n\nThis role requires flexibility and a proactive approach as duties may evolve in line with business needs.\n\nIdeal Background & Experience\n\nWe are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:\n\n * Mechanical Maintenance Engineering\n\n * Mechanical Fitting or Pipefitting\n\n * Fabrication and Welding\n\n * Project Engineering support within manufacturing\n\nIndustry experience in the following environments would be highly advantageous:\n\n * Food & Beverage manufacturing\n\n * Bottling or packaging operations\n\n * FMCG production\n\n * Industrial manufacturing or process engineering\n\nQualifications & Certifications (Desirable)\n\n * NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering / Maintenance\n\n * Time-served mechanical apprenticeship\n\n * City & Guilds in Fabrication & Welding\n\n * Boiler operation knowledge (BOAS qualification desirable)\n\n * IPAF / MEWP certification\n\nKey Skills & Competencies\n\n * Strong mechanical installation expertise\n\n * Pipework fabrication and fitting capability\n\n * Competent in welding, brazing, and soldering\n\n * Ability to interpret engineering drawings\n\n * Knowledge of boiler monitoring and utility systems\n\n * High level of health & safety awareness\n\n * Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team\n\nHealth, Safety & Compliance\n\nYou will be responsible for carrying out all duties in accordance with current Health & Safety, environmental, and food safety legislation.
