Overview Our client are seeking skilled and motivated Project Engineers with either a mechanical or electrical bias to join their project delivery team supporting clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects. These roles are essential to the successful design, coordination, and delivery of engineering solutions that meet client operational and technical requirements, particularly for Thames Water and Southern Water projects. Below is a job overview, along with details specific to those with an electrical bias and those with a mechanical bias respectively. Any candidates who are multi-skilled would be ideal, however the client will consider solely mechanical or electrical bias. Responsibilities Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (civil, electrical, and mechanical) to deliver integrated, cost-effective engineering solutions. Conduct site visits to liaise with clients, assess project requirements, and perform detailed site surveys. Prepare and review technical documentation, specifications, and drawings in line with client and company standards. Attend regular client and internal meetings (e.g., design reviews, progress updates, hazard reviews). Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases. Support the Project Manager with coordination of design and procurement activities. Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quality, compliance, and timely project delivery. Ensure adherence to all relevant standards, regulations, and company Health & Safety policies. Maintain effective communication between internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Ensure that projects are executed in accordance with company procedures, policies, and quality standards. Mechanical Responsibilities Produce and review mechanical design documentation for: Pumping systems Pipework layouts Filtration units Water and wastewater treatment systems Develop detailed design drawings, equipment specifications, and mechanical schedules. Work closely with electrical and civil engineering teams to develop integrated mechanical solutions. Engage with the supply chain for specification, procurement, and inspection of mechanical equipment. Conduct site surveys and inspections for mechanical installations. Generate and maintain mechanical design standards for water and process-based plants, equipment, and ancillaries. Provide technical support during factory acceptance tests (FATs), installation, and commissioning as required. Electrical Responsibilities Evaluate client electrical design drawings, schedules, and documents for pricing and feasibility. Develop electrical design drawings, calculations, and documentation for: Motor Control Centres (MCCs) Cable networks Containment systems Produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and Control Philosophy documents. Assess client DNO supply characteristics, site earthing layouts, and lightning protection requirements. Prepare electrical designs, specifications, and enquiry documents for in subcontractor tender packages. Review and approve supplier and subcontractor electrical design drawings for compliance. Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and integrated FATs (iFATs). Generate and maintain electrical design standards for water and process-based plants, equipment, and ancillaries. Deliver electrical design packages ready for construction and provide technical support during project execution. Ideal Skills & Qualifications: At least 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role. Demonstrated experience in managing large value projects from conception to handover. A relevant Engineering qualification, ideally to Degree level. A full UK driving license. Familiarity with onsite health and safety regulations. Water Hygiene training or a basic understanding of water and sewerage hygiene (desired) Experience or a background in engineering, particularly in Water Utilities and/or process control/flow control/instrumentation/LV MCCs & PLCs. Strong communication skills for both client meetings and site team coordination. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively. Familiarity with 3D design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit). Knowledge of UK water industry standards and practices (e.g., WIMES).
