Swift Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer, Mechanical, to take ownership of mechanical systems and platform development, managing the process from initial concept through low-rate production. This role involves leading technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and develop methods for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems. The Project Engineer will collaborate closely with other disciplines to ensure that electrical, software, and mechanical systems work together to create a reliable, flexible, and cost-effective solution. Responsibilities include leading design reviews, performing analysis, visiting vendors, prototyping, and implementing hardware test plans. The role also involves contributing to the improvement of team tools, templates, processes, and standards while fostering a positive, committed, high-energy, educational, and enjoyable work environment. You’ll need to balance operational needs across vehicle subsystems while optimizing for speed of development, weight, manufacturability, and cost. Additionally, you'll support key hardware demonstrations for customers and travel to test sites and vendors as needed.
Salary Range: $90,000 to $105,000
Requirements
- Experience in an immersive technical project (collegiate project teams or professional settings).
- A minimum of 2+ years in a technical engineering role in a professional setting.
- A minimum of 2+ years developing fixed-wing UAS (Group I/II/III).
- Proven CAD skills (Any platform, but SolidWorks ) and the ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings that comply with common industry standards.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals in structures, fluids, thermal, and mechanisms.
- Manufacturing knowledge & experience with machine shops (sheet metal, CNC, etc.).
- Rapid prototyping experience & 3D printing knowledge.
- Proficient in hands-on prototyping (machining, shop tools, welding, soldering).
- BS or MS in mechanical or aeronautical engineering.
- Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in SolidWorks.
- Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors etc.).
- Solid understanding and application of GD&T
- Advanced designing skills for CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, injection molding, PCBA integration.
- Experience with electro-mechanical and electrical design concepts.
- History of involvement with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, etc.
Working Conditions:
Primarily in an office and shop environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. Occasional travel is expected.
