  • This position is based out of Richmond, Indiana and the incumbent must be based in Richmond, Indiana by late 2025 (relocation package is available). The incumbent will work remotely with regular travel until they relocate.
  • Work schedule:

-Monday to Friday, Days

-Occasional evening and weekend work will be required

-On-call support for evening and weekend coverage will be required

Join us as a Project Engineer I

Reporting to the Head of Project Engineering, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our project engineering team, engineering partners, and equipment vendors to help complete construction and begin to start-up operations of an industry-leading precision fermentation facility. At the construction site in Richmond IN, you will be working directly with the site construction management team along with the newly hired operational leaders that will be located on site.

Once start-up is complete, you will transition to the operations owner team where you will work to maximize up time and efficiency of the biomanufacturing plant.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Start-up phase, pre-operation phase:
    • You will support the Companys project engineering team and external vendors with tasks related to an active biomanufacturing construction project and preparing it for start-up, including:
      • Performing construction site and installed equipment quality checks.
      • Gather and organize equipment and project data to enable a safe and successful start-up (i.e. equipment list data, spare parts, etc.).
      • Connect with vendors and contractors to gather necessary equipment information.
      • Utilize AutoCAD and Navisworks to compare field measurements to model.
      • Build and edit P&IDs.
      • Preparing slide decks and presentations as needed.
      • Support the development of high-quality construction and startup reports/updates.
      • Support installation and start-up/commissioning of equipment and the overall facility.
      • Attend meetings, take notes, and track action items.
      • Assisting with Capital Project documentation.
      • Working with engineering team, and vendors to ensure compliance with government and engineering standards.
  • Post start-up, operational facility:
    • Lead operational continuous improvement and larger maintenance projects, including capital equipment.
    • Analyze data to look for plant opportunities, cost reductions. Formulate opportunities into a project request and gain approvals.
    • Upon approvals, create project scopes of work, identify user requirements, build equipment specifications, lead RFQ processes, engage vendors, contractors and 3rd parties, build project plans and schedules.
    • Execute project plans including but not limited to manage vendors, contractors and 3rd parties, PO and contract initiation, installation, assemblies, plant shutdowns, start-up and commissioning, hand-off to operations personnel.
    • Support corporate engineering with defining and refining standards along with other broader initiatives.
  • General responsibilities:
    • Continuously demonstrate a sense of ownership over assigned tasks to delivery top-quality and time-bound results.
    • Incumbent will learn about the process and facility design that the construction is based on.
    • Support Richmond production team as needed to meet safety and production goals.
    • Complete other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or relevant field.
  • 3+ years of previous relevant work experience in project/process engineering is , but the Company will also consider fresh graduates with limited work experience.
  • Interest in fermentation and biochemistry on an industrial scale.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in a manufacturing facility and on a construction site around heavy machinery (i.e. cranes and forklifts).
  • Knowledge of basic phases of a construction/capital project life cycle.
  • Knowledge of mathematics functions (geometry, basic algebra) is required.
  • Strong computer skills required, including:
    • MS Office, highly proficient in Excel.
    • AutoCAD experience (i.e. P&ID development)
    • AutoCAD viewing software like Navisworks, etc.
    • Able to build a project schedule in Gannt form.
    • experience with scheduling software.
  • Ability to perform all work in a timely, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with employees, subcontractors, and other third parties.
  • Ability to present information in a clear and organized manner in both written and verbal form.
  • Self-starter, highly inquisitive and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Self-driven, collaborative, and results-oriented.
  • Responsible for delivering on your assigned work, contributing to the team where needed with minimal supervision.
  • Resilient, able to handle ambiguity, and enjoys the challenges and rewards of working for a start-up.
