Job Description
PROJECT ENGINEER - RAIL\n\nOur client has been providing project management, engineering advisory and consultancy services to UK infrastructure clients for over 20 years. They are a small to medium‑sized organisation with a strong reputation for delivering multi‑disciplinary projects and programmes for both private and public sector clients. We welcome candidates from Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering backgrounds who are keen to work within a multi‑disciplinary rail environment.\n\nYou will support planning, coordination, technical assurance and delivery of engineering packages, working closely with Project Managers, clients and design partners. This is a hands‑on engineering and coordination role suited to someone who enjoys technical problem‑solving and stakeholder engagement. You will represent the company confidently in client‑facing meetings and work closely with external stakeholders and internal teams.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDeliver engineering packages aligned to programme, cost and quality requirements\n\nSupport development, coordination and assurance of multi‑disciplinary designs\n\nInterpret client requirements and standards to produce compliant engineering solutions\n\nCoordinate interfaces between disciplines and stakeholders in complex rail environments\n\nSupport technical reviews and design assurance processes across project lifecycle stages\n\nMonitor compliance with rail standards, health & safety and environmental requirements\n\nAssist with risk management, issue resolution and change control\n\nContribute to technical proposals and client presentations\n\nBuild strong working relationships with client representatives and stakeholders\n\nWork collaboratively within internal and client teams to support high‑performance delivery\n\nMentor junior and graduate engineers where appropriate\n\nManage personal workload across multiple projects and deadlines\n\nAbout You\n\nWe are seeking engineers who are technically capable, commercially aware and confident operating in client‑facing rail environments.\n\nEssential Criteria\n\nRight to work in the UK\n\nDegree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BSc, MSc or MEng)\n\nMinimum 5+ years' experience in engineering design, design coordination or project engineering within infrastructure or rail\n\nExperience in a multi‑disciplinary project environment\n\nUnderstanding of the UK rail environment and regulatory framework\n\nKnowledge of TfL Pathway or Network Rail GRIP/PACE processes and standards\n\nWorking knowledge of relevant rail standards and assurance processes\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nAbility to manage competing priorities and meet programme deadlines\n\nProactive mindset with willingness to broaden technical and commercial knowledge\n\nProficient in MS Office\n\nDesirable Criteria\n\nExperience across stations, track, civils, MEP or systems\n\nKnowledge of full project lifecycle from concept to handover\n\nMSc or related postgraduate qualification\n\nMembership of a relevant professional body, chartered or working towards chartership\n\nWhy Join Us?\n\nOpportunity to work across multiple rail disciplines\n\nExposure to both engineering and project management environments\n\nGenuine progression opportunities within a growing SME\n\nCollaborative culture where engineers are trusted and empowered\n\nDirect client engagement and meaningful responsibility
