Job Description

A leading specialist contractor is looking for a Project Engineer to take ownership of a technically complex cut & carve and structural steel project in Central London. This is a high-profile role, reporting directly to the Project Manager and leading a small team of engineers on-site.\n\nThe Role\nAs Project Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone of the project, responsible for delivering the engineering scope while managing and mentoring a team of engineers. Your work will ensure that design intent, programme, and quality are fully aligned across the project.\nKey responsibilities include:\n\n * Leading and managing a team of engineers on-site\n\n * Providing technical guidance and direction on cut & carve, structural steel, and temporary works\n\n * Reviewing and approving drawings, method statements, and engineering submissions\n\n * Coordinating with subcontractors, designers, and consultants\n\n * Ensuring quality, compliance, and adherence to health & safety requirements\n\n * Monitoring project progress, identifying risks, and proposing mitigation solutions\n\n * Supporting the Project Manager in programme and resource planning\n\n * Acting as the first point of escalation for engineering issues\n\nRequirements\n\n * Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field\n\n * Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar project engineer role (managing small teams is essential)\n\n * Strong technical experience on cut & carve, structural steel, or complex refurbishment projects\n\n * Ability to read, interpret, and challenge detailed engineering drawings and specifications\n\n * Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams on live, constrained sites\n\n * Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills\n\n * Proactive, hands-on, and able to deliver results under pressure\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\n * Lead a technically challenging, flagship London project\n\n * Manage and mentor a team of engineers, shaping project delivery\n\n * Exposure to complex structural and temporary works in a high-profile urban environment\n\n * Career progression and long-term development within a well-established engineering contractor\n\n * Competitive salary and benefits package\n\nThis is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong engineer who thrives in complex, high-pressure projects and is ready to take ownership of engineering delivery while leading a team
