Project Engineer (Construction)

Job DescriptionJob Description

We’re hiring a Project Engineer II to support large-scale infrastructure and heavy civil projects. This role bridges the field and office, assisting Project Managers in tracking operations, analyzing production data, and ensuring seamless project documentation. Approximately 75% of your time will involve field engagement—gathering measurements, coordinating with field crews, and supporting daily construction activities.

If you're an organized, proactive, and technically skilled professional looking to grow in a fast-paced construction environment, this is an excellent opportunity to step into a leadership-track engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the full project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout in coordination with PMs and Superintendents

  • Maintain and update look-ahead schedules, field measurements, and cost tracking

  • Prepare submittals, RFIs, transmittals, daily diaries, dispatch orders, and material tracking documents

  • Perform on-site data collection and measurement verification for progress payments

  • Conduct safety inspections and submit incident reports as needed

  • Coordinate and submit permit applications, change orders, purchase orders, and subcontract documentation

  • Create and maintain extra work reports; track approval signatures and project logs

  • Analyze daily production performance and report insights to management

  • Maintain quality control documentation and ensure subcontractor compliance

  • Attend project meetings, client updates, and site visits as required

  • Serve as the PM’s "eyes and ears" on the jobsite—reporting potential issues, budget variances, or delays

Tools & Technologies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Scheduling tools: Primavera P6 or MS Project

  • Takeoff and field tools: AGTEK, HCSS Heavy Job, HCSS Plans, Bluebeam

  • Accounting software: Spectrum or similar ERP

  • Familiarity with field management software and mobile reporting tools

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience supporting civil or commercial construction projects

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites

  • QSP Certification for SWPPP compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines

  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills

  • Comfortable working in both field and office environments, including nights or overtime when needed

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Majority field-based with some office duties

  • Must be able to walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Exposure to construction site conditions including dust, noise, and weather

  • May require night shifts or extended hours to meet project deadlines

Why Join Us:

You'll be part of a respected, long-standing construction firm with a track record of delivering large, high-impact projects across California. The company offers competitive pay, growth paths into senior engineering and PM roles, and a supportive team culture.
