At Middle Street Construction, every team member plays a pivotal role in driving the company and their individual project success. As a Project Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to support both office and field execution activities, applying industry fundamentals and best practices. This role will report to the Project Manager but is intended to be executed from the job site. This role is involved in key phases of the construction process, including preconstruction, job start up, project management, field execution, punch lists, and closeout, to build a strong understanding of how MSC delivers its projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports and implements the company’s safety and quality plans by promoting an injury-free environment through individual actions, participation in safety reviews, toolbox talks, and coordination with Safety Representatives.
  • Coordinates QA/QC planning and participates in inspections, punch lists, and quality reviews while preparing and maintaining required documentation.
  • Assists with estimating and change management processes, including quantity take-offs, subcontractor proposal review, and cost control through evaluation and improvement of assigned tasks.
  • Manages RFI’s, submittals, closeout documents and other important project documents.
  • Participates in subcontractor and vendor selection and helps manage subcontractor scope, including coordination, communication, and verification of completed work.
  • Coordinates procurement activities, including purchase orders, material deliveries, procurement logs, shop drawings, and tracking to support project schedule and completion.
  • Monitors and reports on job site activities, including crew size, self-perform hours, materials, production, equipment, and overall progress through daily and weekly reporting.
  • Performs job site observations and works closely with the project team to support field operations and execution.
  • Maintains and distributes current drawings and specifications.
  • Organizes, participates in, and documents project meetings.
  • Provides progress updates to support scheduling efforts and assists with developing and maintaining project schedules, including look-ahead planning and daily task planning.
  • Supports project administration, including job setup and documentation in Procore and other company systems.
  • Assists with project closeout, including punch lists, as-built drawings, and operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Implements and supports self-perform work planning and execution.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with project team members and trades while demonstrating effective communication and teamwork.
  • Demonstrates understanding of company functions and collaborates with internal support teams to contribute to overall project success.
  • Plans and manages individual work within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Supports training and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Various additional responsibilities to support the overall execution of the project.

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
  • Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and understanding of organizational structure and available resources.
  • Knowledge of construction technology, trade scopes, and construction management means and methods.

Accountability

  • Accountable for maintaining accurate, timely project information on site and ensuring the PM and field team always have what they need to keep the job moving.
  • Accountable for supporting day‑to‑day field coordination and issue resolution, helping protect schedule, quality, and communication flow across the project.

Working Environment

  • Flexible working non-traditional hours and travel as needed.
  • Comfortable with physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, and climbing.
