Project Engineer

Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Drive and energise the completion of all allocated projects from handover through to completion
* Maintain project ownership using the action tracker for resolving and recording actions
* Act as the main project contact, liaising with the client, internal departments, and 3rd parties to manage both technical and commercial delivery
* Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, including commercial, contractual, design, and schedule risks
* Define and manage the project delivery schedule, highlighting critical path items and ensuring all QA/QC requirements are met
* Ensure financial systems are updated with accurate progress and forecast costs, raising variations early
* Understand and manage full project scope, ensuring milestones (e.g., S.I.T, F.A.T, mobilisation, release) are achieved
* Develop project documentation and manuals in line with customer expectations and agreed specifications
* Raise purchase requisitions and procure materials/services in line with project timelines
* Ensure all project controls and quality gates are met during delivery, execution, and commissioning
* Lead Project Kick-Off meetings and participate in design reviews
* Present project progress reviews to Directors
* Instigate and manage HAZID and HAZOP sessions as required
Additional Responsibilities
Monitor project cash flow and ensure invoices accurately reflect expenditure and forecasts
Manage engineering and construction contracts, controlling commercial and technical risks
Review and maintain supplier relationships, managing any potential delays
Report all technical, operational, contractual, and financial matters openly and promptly
Support sales with technical input in bid and quotation preparation
Provide technical guidance to operations when necessary
Approve purchase orders and invoices in accordance with project requirements
Review and approve technical documents, reports, and drawings
Supervise site work, including offshore work, as needed
Support client visits and participate in technical presentations
Ensure all tasks align with our client’s policies, procedures, and relevant ISO 9001/14001 standards
General Activity
Comply with all statutory Health & Safety requirements
Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times
Carry out additional duties as reasonably requested by management
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
City & Guilds / NVQ in a relevant Mechanical or Electrical discipline
HND / HNC in Engineering
2:2 Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Structural), Mathematics, or Physics
Desirable:
Relevant offshore industry certification (e.g., offshore survival)
Project Management qualifications such as APM, PRINCE2, or Six Sigma
Experience
Essential:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar engineering/project-based role
Proven success in delivering projects in a client-facing capacity
Experience in financial forecasting within project environments
Confident leading internal/external meetings
Some exposure to offshore or technical field-based environments
Desirable:
3–5 years’ experience in a Project Engineer or Project Manager role
Background in offshore structures, drilling, or subsea equipment
Experience leading offshore project teams

Essential:
Strong IT literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Proven decision-making and problem-solving ability
Ability to simplify and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
Desirable:
Multilingual skills
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and drive profit opportunities within projects
