Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a conscientious Project Engineer to join our New Product Development team.
The Project Engineer leads new product development projects from conception through production, setting product specifications, quality requirements and design of components for manufacturability. Responsible for Engineering functions related to new product design, product modifications of cost and quality all within established schedules. Utilizes creativity, initiative, judgment and leadership and wide range of engineering principles in the process. Exemplifies the "Wahl Way" through continuous improvement, innovation, and creating value for the customer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- This position maintains an awareness of competitor products and the general business climate in personal care appliance industry. Utilizes this information in the design and development of new products.
- Manages project flow involving regular contact with manufacturing and other cross functional staff members; maintains adherence to all procedures covering new product development and design output in addition to procedures of non-engineering departments related to project flow.
- Responsible for the design, manufacturability, cost, tooling, performance and quality specifications, corrective action/revisions of a product while developing and maintaining a production schedule. Assists and works with others required to bring a project to successful completion. Establishes, reviews, checks, revises drawings, write-ups, routers and specifications to support the design of new products. This position conducts and evaluates electrical, quality, performance, safety and reliability testing of product design on prototypes and finished product.
- Establishes bill of material, oversees construction of working and visual models and schedules/facilitates design review/production release meetings to ensure design feasibility and production scheduling. Works with manufacturing and quality to develop required fixtures and gauges. Tracks project schedule to ensure adherence to timelines.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Models and incorporates the "Wahl Way" into day-to-day responsibilities, initiatives, and projects.
- Formulates new product ideas and analysis of new product proposals.
- Assists and instructs support functions for the successful completion of projects.
- Establishes, reviews, checks and revises specifications write-ups, drawings, routers and specifications for new and existing products.
- Plans, conducts and evaluates overall performance on prototypes and products.
- Establishes and revises bill of material as necessary.
- Oversees construction of working and visual models.
- Conducts design review and production release meetings to ensure design feasibility and production schedules.
- Assists in the development of required fixtures and gauges.
- Establishes test plans and evaluates test results.
- Trouble shoots product performance and reliability issues using structured problem-solving approach.
- Conducts line trials and works with cross-functional teams to implement the project.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in related engineering field required, Mechanical Engineering .
- 5 – 10 years in an applicable engineering discipline (Electro-mechanical Design, Mechanical Design), or comparable Product Engineering Experience.
- 2-3 years minimum engineering experience related to project management of precision electro-mechanical products or machinery from concept through production
- High level of verbal and written communication skills; must be able to interface with individuals in variety of job levels both internally and externally
- Experience using simulation tools a plus
- Experience using FMEA and other design tools is a plus.
- Strong project management skills, leadership ability and initiative
- Broad knowledge of engineering materials and understanding of manufacturing process associated with plastics, metal stamping, motor and machining manufacturability
- 3-D modeling experience is (Siemens NX )
- Creative problem-solving ability and high mechanical aptitude
- Experience with cutting elements a plus
