Role Overview
My client is looking for a highly experienced Project Controls Manager to lead the planning, cost, risk, and reporting functions across complex capital energy projects across Germany.
This is a senior, client-facing role requiring strategic oversight, hands-on expertise in project controls systems, and the ability to drive performance across multi-disciplinary teams. You will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of energy infrastructure projects—on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of integrated project controls frameworks across scheduling, cost, and risk functions.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (Primavera P6/MS Project) in alignment with engineering, procurement, and construction milestones.
- Manage cost control processes: budget setup, cost forecasting, earned value analysis, and cost performance reporting.
- Monitor and analyze project progress and variances; provide accurate status reports and performance metrics to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Establish and oversee robust change control and risk management procedures, including qualitative and quantitative risk analysis.
- Support procurement and contract teams with schedule and cost input during tendering and negotiation phases.
- Interface with project managers, engineers, clients, and external partners to ensure alignment on scope, time, and financial targets.
- Lead and mentor a team of planners, cost engineers, and reporting analysts.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in project controls, with at least 3+ years in a lead or managerial role.
- Proven experience in major energy or infrastructure projects (e.g., power , renewables, transmission, or utilities).
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel.
- Strong command of Earned Value Management (EVM), risk analysis techniques, and project reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, EcoSys).
- Knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, or other relevant contract frameworks.
- Fluent in English; German skills are a strong advantage but not mandatory.
Attributes:
- Certifications such as PMP, AACE CCP, or PRINCE2.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, especially in multinational environments.
- Experience working in consultancy, EPC, or owner-side project delivery environments.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
