Architectural Project Manager Opportunity
At our boutique architectural firm, the Architectural Project Manager plays a pivotal role in driving high-quality project outcomes and ensuring a seamless client experience. The ideal candidate is a seasoned architect with strong project leadership skills, design sensibility, and the ability to manage complex custom residential and light commercial projects from concept through construction. In this role, you will lead project teams, collaborate closely with our Principal Architect, and foster strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors, all while contributing to a positive, design-focused studio culture.
This is a part-time to full-time opportunity based in our Downers Grove office, conveniently located near the train line.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
• Lead architectural projects through all phases: schematic design, design development, construction documentation, permitting, and construction administration.
• Oversee project timelines, budgets, and milestones to ensure successful project delivery.
• Serve as primary liaison between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal team members.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
Design & Technical Execution
• Develop and refine project concepts aligned with client goals and firm’s design philosophy.
• Prepare detailed construction documents and coordinate consultant drawings.
• Lead construction administration efforts, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits.
• Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, zoning regulations, and building standards.
Client & Team Collaboration
• Guide clients through the design and construction process with clear communication and professionalism.
• Collaborate closely with the Principal Architect and design team to foster a cohesive project vision.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to studio knowledge-sharing and best practices.
Office & Studio Culture
• Support a collaborative, design-focused office culture with an emphasis on creativity, craftsmanship, and excellence.
• Participate in team meetings, design critiques, and firm-wide initiatives.
• Represent the firm positively in interactions with clients, consultants, and the broader design community.
Qualifications
• Education: Professional degree in architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch required).
• Experience: 7–10 years of relevant architectural experience, with proven project management experience in custom residential and light commercial work.
• Licensure: Architectural licensure in Illinois , or on licensure track.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD (primary), Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp; familiarity with rendering tools (Enscape or similar) a plus.
• Attributes: Strong leadership and organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative, proactive, and client-focused mindset.
• Additional: Familiarity with typical permitting processes and building codes.
Working Conditions
• Office-based role, primarily in-person in our Downers Grove studio.
