Job DescriptionEngineering Track

Engineering interns at Hanwha Philly Shipyard gain hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of ship design and production. The primary focus is on Design Review — understanding how engineering data flows from models and drawings to the production floor.

Interns are typically placed in one or more departments such as:

  • Piping
  • Electrical Systems
  • Hull & Structural
  • Outfitting
  • Project Engineering
  • Quality Support


Typical Responsibilities

  • Participate in design review meetings using Navisworks and AutoCAD (2D) to identify interferences and verify constructability.
  • Assist engineers with drawing markups, redlines, and revisions using Adobe Acrobat and coordinate updates with production.
  • Help prepare and distribute Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) and maintain revision control.
  • Support Design Change Notices (DCNs), including creating or updating associated drawings.
  • Participate in field walk-downs to confirm installation progress and collect data for design verification.
  • Assist with Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and material tracking using Excel and SAP.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Production, and Quality to resolve design or material issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on documentation, workflow accuracy, and communication.


Software & Tools You’ll Use

  • \nNavisworks – 3D model viewing and design review
  • \nAutoCAD (2D) – Drawing creation and updates
  • \nMS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) – BOM tracking and documentation
  • \nAdobe Acrobat – Drawing markup and redline management
  • \nSAP – Material coordination and procurement tracking
  • \nAVEVA Marine (on occasion) – 3D modeling and drawing creation under Hanwha integration


What You’ll Learn

Qualifications

  • Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors pursuing degrees in:
    • \nEngineering: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Naval Architecture, Marine, Industrial & Systems Engineering
  • \nMinimum GPA: 3.0
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • \nU.S. work authorization required — no sponsorship available
