Industry: Engineering | Structural Engineering | Construction ServicesPosition OverviewHireNow Staffing is representing an established engineering and construction services organization seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to serve as the technical authority for its New Bern operations. This is a senior-level role requiring both engineering expertise and operational leadership.This position is designed for a Professional Engineer who is comfortable taking full responsibility for engineering decisions, stamping reports and plans, and guiding engineering and field personnel. The role extends beyond traditional design functions and requires hands-on involvement in inspections, project execution, and operational oversight.The organization is specifically seeking a long-term leader who can play a key role in technical operations, mentor staff, and help shape the future direction of the engineering division.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Authority & Technical Oversight
- Serve as the licensed Professional Engineer responsible for reviewing, approving, and stamping engineering reports, structural evaluations, and repair designs.
- Provide technical leadership and make final engineering determinations on structural integrity, construction methods, and remediation approaches.
- Ensure engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Review field findings and translate observations into engineered solutions.
Structural Evaluation & Field Engineering
- Conduct site visits to evaluate structural conditions in residential, commercial, and light industrial environments.
- Identify structural deficiencies, analyze root causes, and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with field teams to ensure proper implementation of engineering recommendations.
- Perform inspections and ensure engineering standards are maintained throughout project execution.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise Engineers-in-Training, inspectors, and technical staff, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Review engineering work for accuracy, completeness, and technical integrity.
- Support professional development and help strengthen internal engineering capabilities.
- Serve as a technical resource across engineering and operational teams.
Operational & Project Oversight
- Oversee engineering workflows, project prioritization, and execution timelines.
- Collaborate with leadership on project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Ensure engineering deliverables align with operational capabilities and client expectations.
- Maintain engineering documentation, reports, and compliance records.
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)Candidates must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Strong background in structural engineering, construction engineering, or applied engineering environments.
- Demonstrated experience stamping engineering reports, designs, or structural evaluations.
- Experience supervising or mentoring engineering staff, inspectors, or field personnel.
- Ability and willingness to perform field inspections and site evaluations.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to make independent engineering decisions.
- Stable employment history with demonstrated long-term tenure in prior roles.
Qualifications (Strongly Emphasized)Standout candidates will possess:
- Experience working in structural repair, forensic engineering, or applied structural evaluation.
- Background supporting construction operations or engineering services tied directly to field execution.
- Leadership experience managing engineering teams or technical divisions.

Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer who is comfortable serving as the senior technical authority for engineering decisions. They have hands-on structural engineering experience, understand real-world construction environments, and are confident stamping reports and providing engineering oversight.They bring a leadership mindset, strong technical judgment, and a commitment to long-term professional growth. This individual is not limited to desk-based design work and understands the importance of field evaluation, operational coordination, and mentoring junior engineers.Deal Breakers (Candidates Will Not Be Considered If)
- No active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience limited exclusively to design roles without engineering oversight or stamping responsibility.
- No structural or construction-related engineering experience.
- No leadership, supervision, or operational responsibility.
- Unwillingness to perform field inspections or site visits.
- Unstable employment history or frequent job changes.
