Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Production Supervisor reports directly to a Production Manager and is responsible for managing production operations during a shift. This includes leading and training the staff, following production processes, and coordinating maintenance and upkeep of equipment with the maintenance team. The supervisor must follow best practices of operating in a USDA facility and lead efforts to continuously improve processes in a lean environment. The supervisor works closely with a Production Manager, the planning managers, and other members of the Operations teams to ensure that productivity targets are met, and downtime events are kept to a minimum. Responsibilities:
- Manage production operations during the shift and ensure personnel are trained, schedules meet planned output, machine operations are efficient, and facilities remain clean and functional.
- Monitor production to ensure the highest quality products are packaged and shipped to customers.
- Coordinate production operations activities with other department leaders to ensure that all manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Lead the management and control of inventories during the shift.
- Provide leadership, coaching, development, and training to the production operations team to accomplish company goals and values.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure that all machines are kept at top operating performance.
- Adhere to HACCP plan and production controls and ensure all team members follow established protocol in a USDA plant.
- Improve costs and manage quality of product through quality processes such as lean production, continuous improvement, 6S, and others.
- Maintain and improve food safety, food defense, and food quality programs within the operation.
- Ensure accuracy of data and documents related to production, shipping, and maintenance.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Business, Operations, Food Science, Engineering, Manufacturing or related field and a minimum of 1 year meat processing operations OR equivalent 1-3 years experience in food manufacturing is acceptable for the education requirement.
- Basic knowledge of the product, production processes and other techniques for maximizing the level of production.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
- Ability to work alone or as a member of a team
- Awareness of sanitation and hygiene procedures and practices
- Concern for the safety of self and co-workers and a responsible attitude.
- Proven ability to lead a group of people to accomplish established targets. Strong interpersonal skills are a must for this role.
- Solid computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
- Ability to solve problems and present effective and efficient solutions in a clear and concise manner. Must be detail oriented and organized, yet flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
- Able to prioritize workload according to changing demands.
- Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner.
- Desire to learn, grow and contribute in a team-based environment.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of materials.
- Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and/or reach.
- Manual dexterity- the ability to quickly move hands and arms, manipulate and/or assemble objects.
- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects.
- The use of gloves, hair net and frock is required.
Work Environment: Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and products up to 25 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
