Position Overview:
This position is accountable for the day-to-day safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the site and is responsible for the R2 Operations department. Assist Unit Manager in hiring, training, and developing Operators, promoting accountability culture on site. Seeking a results-driven Production Supervisor to lead day-to-day operations of our sulfuric acid manufacturing unit. This frontline leadership role is responsible for executing production plans, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, coordinating maintenance, and driving operator engagement and accountability.
Responsibilities:
Production & Operations
- Oversee daily plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production.
- Set daily production targets and issue shift production instructions.
- Manage raw material and finished goods inventory levels; forecast future needs.
- Review operator log sheets, water treatment logs, and safety inspections.
- Conduct routine field observations; recognize and correct behaviors or conditions.
- Ensure documentation (SOPs, checklists, logs) is accurate, current, and followed.
- Maintain Operator schedules; review and approve timecards and vacation requests.
- Lead daily production meetings and serve periodically as On-Duty Supervisor.
- Supervise on-site contractors as required.
Maintenance Coordination
- Write work notifications and escalate critical equipment issues.
- Review and approve SAP maintenance notifications and convert them into work orders.
- Participate in maintenance planning and scheduling meetings.
- Prioritize maintenance tasks and approve break-in work orders as necessary.
- Oversee shutdowns and startups, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, and product quality.
Quality Assurance
- Track and respond to quality trends; ensure products meet specifications.
- Promote equipment ownership and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
- Support planning, execution, and documentation of plant turnarounds.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and reinforce safety leadership as outlined in our Life Saving Behaviors and 10 Expectations of Leaders.
- Lead and support a strong safety culture through field presence and engagement.
- Conduct field audits (e.g., HSE Tours, My Check 5, LCP, housekeeping).
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and limits.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations; ensure timely reporting and communication.
- Monitor and enforce PPE use and training compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, a degree in a manufacturing curriculum, engineering or related field is
- 5+ years in chemical manufacturing or heavy industry with supervisory or lead experience
- Strong understanding of sulfuric acid or similar high-hazard process environments
- Proficient in SAP (or other CMMS), Microsoft Office, and production documentation systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, PSM, environmental regulations, and safe work practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to work in a 24/7 production environment and respond to off-hours needs
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
