SUMMARY
The Production Planner evaluates project specifications and develops production plans to meet demand and quality standards. This role is responsible for creating production layouts, determining material, equipment, and labor needs, preparing performance reports, and assisting in resolving production issues to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The goal is to maintain efficient and cost-effective production operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develops and provides timely production plans to achieve internal financial goals and meet customer delivery dates.
• Exercises judgment within established procedures to determine appropriate actions.
• Coordinates production schedules to ensure deadlines are achievable while meeting quality standards.
• Determines material, equipment, and labor requirements; prepares project performance reports; and assists in resolving production issues.
• Revises estimates for active projects to optimize costs while maintaining quality expectations.
• Analyzes labor, material, and overhead costs; compares planned versus actual job costs and adjusts as necessary.
• Develops and reviews production materials, including layouts and stock calculations; manages timelines; and communicates with key stakeholders, including sales, client services, premedia, scheduling, purchasing, production, and distribution.
• Processes change orders and communicates production-related issues to relevant departments; informs sales/client services of additional costs.
• Leads pre-production and post-production meetings, attends daily production meetings, and provides project updates.
• Collaborates with external vendors for outsourced or specialized services to ensure project specifications and quality standards are met.
• Researches new materials and obtains quotes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Required:

• Minimum 10 years of production planning experience, preferably in printing, mailing, or fulfillment industries.
• Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in related industries.
• Printing experience required.

Education Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; 2–4 year degree in Printing or related field .

REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS

• Comprehensive understanding of raw materials, manufacturing workflows, quality assurance, cost structures, and process optimization.
• Proven experience as a production planner.
• Working knowledge of ERP and/or MRP systems.
• Proficient with MS Office and other production-related software, including pagination applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong math, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent lifting up to 20 lbs., walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, and computer work.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., pulling, pushing, bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, climbing ladders, operating mechanical equipment, and driving.
