SUMMARY
Under routine supervision of the Production Engineering Manager, Production Engineer evaluates current and proposed production processes, assists with new product development and production methods, and implements design or process changes that improve the manufacturing safety, quality, and/or productivity.

- Create and evaluate process plans and production preparation plans for new manufacturing processes.
- Assists with development of new product designs and/or production process that meet company and customer safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Create and evaluate process flow, layout, work combination and equipment specs.
- Supervise supplier selection process for sourcing of tools and equipment.
- Control budget and track budget related activities.
- Develop reports to allow for growth and development of the PE team.
- Coach team members on production processes.
- Collect and organize data in an orderly fashion to be accessed and used for future programs.
- Discuss agreement of equipment specifications with plants.
- Participate and guide the design, construction and installation of new tools and equipment.
- Understand, analyze and elevate production preparation issues in a timely manner to allow for countermeasures.
- Report production preparation status to PE management and related groups.
- Modifies existing equipment, tooling, and/or process designs to improve safety, quality, and/or productivity.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses daily production and quality problems. Monitors ongoing data and makes systemic process improvements.
- Assists with tooling and equipment procurement to support production and product design modifications. Performs investigation of available vendor/suppliers, pricing, quality, delivery schedules, available vendor technical assistance, etc.
- Assists production groups with technical problem solving, training, etc. Authors and edits relevant technical work instructions.
- Conducts, supervises, and documents trial manufacturing procedures including standard development, technical problem solving, dimensional issue resolution, etc.
- Attends and participates in various company meetings relating to design projects, technical and production problems, safety and quality issues, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AMD EXPERINCE REQUIREMENTS
- Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of mechanical engineering, materials and steel fabrication methods including but not limited to stamping, forming, welding, and painting.
- Basic understanding and working knowledge of the industrial equipment and manufacturing processes. Ability to follow company policies and procedures regarding safety, quality, and operations.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, good math skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effectively working with vendors/suppliers, other department personnel, etc. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information in verbal and written English.
- Ability to read component, assembly and equipment drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Proficiency with ACAD or similar required.
- Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Internet, etc.).
- Ability to program production machines and equipment.
- Manufacturing experience (1~3 years) in automotive components (e.g., stamping, assembly, tooling, welding, and other miscellaneous components), managing projects from design to production.
- Experience with PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
- Basic understanding and working knowledge of the industrial equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to function both independently and with good judgment in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work efficiently within time constraints and deadlines, and handle stressful situations in a calm manner.
- Ability to work in a team environment to support demanding automotive customer requirements.
- Ability to program production machines and equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not have any direct reports.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computes, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level on the job site can be loud
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, the position does access the manufacturing facility. The position does access the manufacturing facility. To navigate the area the individual will need to be able to walk moderate distances, climb a limited amount of stairs, and have the ability to communicate with operators safely. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL
This position requires less than 5% travel.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Metallurgical Engineering or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
