Job Title: Product Engineering Support
Client: Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Duration: 2 Years (Possible Extension)
Location: Fargo, ND 58102
Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Role Overview

This position supports product engineering activities, including validation, verification, testing, troubleshooting, and process improvements. The Engineering Technician works with engineering teams to support product development, testing procedures, and production operations while assisting in problem resolution and continuous improvement initiatives.

Major Purpose

  • Develop and evaluate new engineering technologies or methods (mechanical, hydraulic, software, etc.).
  • Plan and execute engineering work for product validation and verification.
  • Identify technical issues, track corrective actions, and support reliability analysis.
  • Serve as a member of cross-functional product/project teams.
  • Provide guidance on testing procedures to engineers and support staff.

Major Duties

  • Perform lab and field tests to validate new product designs.
  • Analyze test data, prepare reports, and act as liaison between PV&V and product engineering.
  • Review customer-related data (warranty, DTAC, EDPR, surveys) to support improvements.
  • Develop and refine test procedures for undefined operating loads.
  • Provide task direction to test operators.
  • Support updates to product definition documents.
  • Coordinate corrective action activities and track progress.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide technical support for production teams in resolving assembly, tooling, and equipment issues.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve engineering and production problems.
  • Support installation, wiring, programming, documentation, and maintenance of assembly and automation equipment (fixtures, torque tools, conveyors, PLCs, robots).
  • Create and update MWIs, JDAAT programs, labels, and final packaging documents.
  • Configure PLCs, sensors, networks, scanners, cameras, and related I/O devices.
  • Support Manufacturing and Factory Automation Engineers on prototypes and engineering activities.
  • Assist with design, fabrication, and verification of fixtures, jigs, and mechanical tools; train operators as needed.
  • Participate as an engineering representative in Continuous Improvement teams (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity).
  • Support assembly line layout changes, waste reduction initiatives, and equipment moves.
  • Aid in labor standards development, time studies, and line balancing.
  • Assist with final assembly process development and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Create purchase requisitions for tools and supplies.
  • Use Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint to communicate engineering information.
  • Research assembly techniques, equipment, and systems.
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Education

  • A.S. in Mechatronics, Electronics, or a 2-year technical diploma.
  • Equivalent military training or experience may also qualify.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in electronics, engineering, or manufacturing.
  • 7+ years .

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and electronic components.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis experience.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Agile, EMES or similar).
  • Ability to maintain product documentation and records.
  • Experience assembling/disassembling products and prototypes.
  • Capable of performing mechanical tasks and guiding other technicians/operators.
  • Basic understanding of Studio 5000 and ladder logic (PLCs).
  • Basic experience with robotics (Fanuc/UR ).
  • Skilled in data research, tabulation, and reporting.
  • Participation or familiarity with PFMEA reviews.
