Product Development Engineer Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a cross-functional team, developing new products from concept to production for the automotive and manufacturing sectors. As a Product Development Engineer, you will combine your technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and strong communication skills to deliver innovative solutions and ensure that our products meet all functional, cost, and quality requirements.

Key Product Development Responsibilities

Responsibilities and authorities for this position include, but are not limited to:

1. Lead and participate in the design, development, and prototyping of new products, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality to bring products from concept through launch.
3. Utilize CAD and engineering tools to create 3D models, engineering drawings, and documentation.
4. Evaluate and apply advanced materials, processes, and technologies to enhance product design and performance.
5. Conduct design reviews, DFMEA, and validation/verification activities to ensure product reliability and safety.
6. Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, and test results to stakeholders.
7. Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
8. Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for engineering-related issues.
9. Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all company EH&S and quality standards.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements for Product Development Engineering

This role requires the following minimum education and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Product Design, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in product development, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting (SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar software).
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, or machining.
• Experience with design validation, testing protocols, and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
• Strong analytical, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Available to support projects with occasional travel or outside regular hours as required.

Skills for Success in New Product Design & Engineering

• Experience with GD&T, DFMEA, and project lifecycle management systems.
• Understanding of automotive product standards and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of polymer materials, surface treatments, and assembly methods is an asset.
• Certification such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or EIT is considered an advantage.
