PURCHASING SPECIALIST
JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective SUMMARY
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for managing the purchasing and procurement
process for our company. The successful candidate researches, selects, and negotiates
the best prices and terms for materials, supplies, and services. This role also works
directly with the Business Office to facilitate processing orders and follows up on
purchase orders and maintains accurate records of all purchases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Service managers and technicians with sourcing materials from
suppliers by trade
- Identify cost savings opportunities and negotiate price and terms for
purchases with existing and new suppliers
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure all items are in stock
- Reviewing jobs to ensure all materials are received for timely job completion
- Track and analyze purchasing trends and develop strategies to optimize future purchases
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and high quality products
- Manage relationships between the company and all suppliers and vendors
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and external regulations
- Knowledge of materials and parts for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general trade items
- Proven experience as a Purchasing Specialist or similar role
- In-depth knowledge of purchasing principles and practices
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Able to analyze and interpret data
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to communicate effectively between departments
- Separate documents and file in order as directed.

- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Attends departmental meetings as required.
- Save and archive documents and plans.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to 12 months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must be able to type 45 words per minute.
Skills
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, e-mail software and the use of the Internet.
