Process Safety Specialist

It employs more than 5000 employees across over 40 sites and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.Location: Will consider applications across the EMEA region.Purpose of the job:This role will support the implementation and development of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Agenda at Synthomer, leading continuous improvement programmes in PSM through support and site visits, as well as supporting the development of a sustainable Process Safety culture that meets corporate and local legislative requirements. Champion the sharing of best practice, and incident learnings, across the sites and to provide relevant specialised training. To also develop site local Process Safety performance indicators and to audit and monitor to ensure systems are followed and working.Role responsibilities:Maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) policies and guidelines consistent with Synthomer Global PSM procedures and legislationObtain commitment of resources to implement site PSM policies and guidelines and to sustain continuous improvement of process safetyCover Process Safety/Asset Integrity as part of the Group SHE audit process to verify sites performance and adherence to required standardsProvide leadership, vision and support to sites in reviewing and improving Process Safety through regular Process Safety Network meetingsProvide Process Safety guidance to ensure adequate attention is paid to PSM during such activities as capital projects, acquisitions, mothballing and process phase outFacilitate Process Safety studies around the group; Hazard Studies, HAZOP, Human Factors Analysis, SIL Assessment, Functional Safety Management, Hazardous Area Classification, Pressure Relief Calculations etcEnsure relevant PSM training is provided to make Process Safety more accessible to the entire workforceAssist with accident and incident investigations and ensure lessons learnt from incidents are shared, implemented and improvements sustainedDevelop, monitor and establish clear accountability for performance against specific site Process Safety goals and objectives, monitored by means of Process Safety Performance indicatorsWork with Process Safety and SHE team to share knowledge, best practice and define Process Safety agenda going forwardEnsure compliance to and continuous improvement of the PSM System through appropriate programme of Monitor, Audit and Review.Knowledge, skills & Experience required:Degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific subject is essential; this could be Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering5 years + experience within a manufacturing environment is essential, including 3 years Process Safety Management or related roles within the chemical industryDemonstrable experience of implementing Human Factors, HAZOP, PHA and Functional Safety (IEC 61511) programmes is desirable although a thorough knowledge of the above would be essentialSafety qualification preferable (e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent)Excellent verbal & written communication skills essentialRole will include significant travel (20%) with requirement for trips of 1 week within Europe and 2 week duration outside of EuropeWhy Synthomer?We are ambitious!We have grown significantly – both organically and inorganically.
