Process Re-engineering, Assistant Vice President

Why join us? As part of the Global Markets Operations strategic model, HSBC have created a global center for Operations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Manila, Philippines. The center supports multiple products and legal entities, supporting business critical functions whilst their partners in the onshore hubs concentrate on functions which require proximity to business or clients. The primary purpose of this role is to manage and support the Process Re-Engineering for Clearing & Settlements – GSC, Operations with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Manila, Philippines of circa plus 100+ FTE. This has a range of diverse teams in charge of Clearing and settlements, Client Service and Cash/Nostro Reconciliations. Given the diverse mix of products, the regulatory environment, the time zone and the balance sheets, this is a senior role part of the Clearing & Settlements (C&S) in MSS Operations management team. Over and above the daily Operations responsibilities, the following are key attributes and responsibilities form this role: Delivery: Takes ownership and accountability of complex issues/exceptions/queries and acquires the knowledge needed to resolve them ( understand the root cause for any operations incidents and remediate, tax, risk, technical expertise needed, and uses this to resolve issues.) Leverages the expertise needed to resolve issues/exceptions/queries, through explaining the business rationale and facts, and justifying urgency. Influences others to help deliver results. Does not leave issues unmanaged or incomplete. Factors risk and control implications into actions. If results are threatened, takes actions to communicate, escalate and remedy the situation. Understand future business needs and ambitions, analyses and documents requirements to define future state. Independent in leading and driving initiatives with sound judgement in dealing with challenges, dealing with uncertainty, risk and changing circumstances. Business Improvement: Uses deep expertise (Data) to create proposals for defined process efficiencies, cost saving efforts, process guidance, training etc. Gains approval by selling these ideas tenaciously to management and peers. Demonstrates active involvement in projects and programmes delivering useful improvements to systems, business process or performance. Contributes actively to meetings/conference calls and ensures that their perspective is included in decision making on business improvements, efficiency gains or change initiatives. Provides timely reports on project status, risks and issues, evaluating project performance based on management information using standardised metrics Questions the status quo at all times. Lead the team to deliver efficiencies which result in tangible benefits and increases effectiveness of the department People: Articulates expectations and encourages performance from colleagues, project teams, virtual teams. Uses formal and informal approaches to deliver performance ( process targets, review against project objectives, giving informal feedback to peers regularly.) Uses their technical/professional expertise to develop the competence and experience base of others. Acts as a role model to create and maintain a collaborative team environment which supports and encourages the professionalism and development of our teams What you’ll do: Impact on the Business/Function: Adherence to KRI & KPI targets: as set by MSS Operations Deliver Risk & Control Framework Cost Review & Rationalization Change Management & Process Improvement Support delivery of MSS Operations led initiatives & changes Support delivery of Market-led initiatives Partner and Input into Operating Model Strategy Deliver Offshoring Strategy Customers / Stakeholders: Excellent communication with key stakeholders and in managing their needs & keeping them informed Build and maintain a positive relationship with internal/external partners Operational Effectiveness & Control: Partner with Risk Managers across Global sites to ensure joined up and consistent approach to risk and controls. Work with Global Businesses to ensure that the framework is consistent across Securities and Global in nature. Create strong risk & control environment from junior team members through to management team. Support formal escalation framework across all aspects of Operations, including day to day operational risks and systemic risks Partner with Audit and Compliance regionally to resolve high audit items, deliver prompt resolution and actions, and take ownership where appropriate; and liaise with relevant Business stream to provide updates and transparency Others: Relationship Management People Management & Staff Development Attrition rate Business Continuity Plan Business Re-engineering To keep up with market developments, regulatory and legal requirements. Requirements What you will need to succeed in the role: Must have a strong understanding of the MSS Ops and trade lifecycle processes of the Clearing and Settlement business [Global Custody/Direct Custody would be an added advantage] Strong knowledge of associated technology used by the business to be able to be the Subject Matter Expert to support the change for new system deployment/changes Must have experience in Change initiatives and an understanding of the full project life cycle Agile / Scrum methodologies of project delivery Ability to work well under pressure with high degree of accuracy independently Must be experienced operations professional with significant exposure to managing operations and deal with stakeholders across Global region Ability to work in a virtual team environment and support multiple functions and stakeholders globally. Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management Ability to work cohesively with multiple stakeholders as part of a global management team. Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across an organization. Attention to detail and a “hands on” approach to management of work with local managers, driving process change and improve efficiency and control. The job holder would be expected to do a APAC/UK shift, with a potential rotation to do other shifts if required as per business needs. Flexible and adaptable towards different working hours as per project needs. What additional skills will be good to have? Strong working relationships with peers in Operations roles across other regions Strong working relationship with broader support teams – from Compliance, Change, Product Control and Front Office Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management Exceptional leadership and management skills with the capability or track record of managing staff Knowledge of project management tools such as JIRA/Confluence Organisational skills and ability to pick up work right away Relevant industry certification – CAPM, PMP, Agile or any other equivalent certification
