Position Summary: This position will support Biomason’s strategy of developing sustainable construction products having low carbon footprints and associated processes that can also compete on cost and functionality vs. incumbents. Key responsibilities include developing process & techno economic models as well as conduct life cycle assessments that help determine optimal selections for Biomason’s portfolio including products, services, and supply chain. This position requires detailed knowledge and experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as well as process modeling and techno economics (TE). This position will independently conduct and manage projects pertaining to TE and LCA, or related approaches, to inform strategies, communications, and licensing needs. This role contributes to our company-wide strategic sustainability efforts with the goal of ensuring that the company's sustainability efforts enhance business performance and support the long-term interests of the company.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide process engineering support of multiple projects aimed at developing and deploying novel technologies to meet company goals and milestones.

  • Life Cycle Assessment and Techno-Economic Analyses of various products and processes in Biomason’s pipeline

  • Analyze diverse process data and interpret results.

  • Contribute to establishing and applying process modeling and simulation tools, including mass and energy balances, reaction kinetics, etc. for the purpose of process development, sub-plant analysis, process engineering, techno economic or life cycle analyses, plant scheduling and plant optimization etc.

  • Works closely with Finance & Manufacturing/Supply Chain groups

  • Participate in relevant industry associations

  • Prepare & give presentations for customers, investors and other high level business development activities

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s, Masters or Ph.D. degrees in environmental science, or engineering, chemical, civil, mechanical engineering, sustainability, architecture, economics, or other fields relevant to life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno economics (TE)

  • 3+ years of professional experience

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in LCA & TE applied in industrial processes

  • Knowledge or experience in developing GHG emissions inventories

  • LCA Certified Professional or other similar sustainability credentials would be highly desirable

Competencies:

  • A sound understanding of engineering fundamentals, strong modeling and computational skills

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to deliver detailed technical presentations in support of new products, processes, and development results.

  • Presentation skills and experience presenting to technical and nontechnical audiences

  • Experience in continuous process improvement, risk analysis and developing manufacturing control charts

  • Highly organized and possess excellent attention to detail.

  • Creative, flexible, proactive, punctual, and persistent.

  • Experience working responsibly with hazardous chemicals and chemical processes.

  • Comfortable with a demanding, fast-paced work environment.

  • Remains stationary for long periods of time, often standing or sitting

  • Repetitive wrist motion

  • Moving about to accomplish tasks

  • Operating laboratory equipment and tools
