About the Role:

The Process Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in optimizing and enhancing manufacturing processes within the Programming and Engineering Department, which creates set up sheets and programs for laser, punch, bend, weld and machining. This position is responsible for leading a team of engineers to develop and implement innovative process solutions that improve efficiency, reduce cost, and ensure product quality by providing the necessary technical support for the production, weld and assembly of precision sheet metal components in a build to print environment. Occasionally, the customer may request some design support in the development of their product. Ultimately, the Process Engineering Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives that contribute to the overall success and competitiveness of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of process engineers in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes. The engineering team is responsible for providing the production team with accurate manufacturing job packages which include bills of materials, routings, drawings, and inspection plans through our JobBoss ERP system.

Work Order Creation & Flowdown of requirements

  • Coordinates the creation and printing of work orders (jobs) for production based on JobBoss recommendations. Work orders include all required production, purchasing and inspection documentation including drawings, set up sheets, customer specifications, certification requirements, inspection plans, etc. Help ensure business objectives are achieved by ensuring everyone downstream of engineering is set up for success by providing the information, tools and training they require to perform their role effectively.

Contract Review

  • Leads the contract review (CR) team which meets weekly. Works closely with sales, estimators, manufacturing, purchasing, and operation departments to confirm all customer requirements can be achieved. Leads “CR” team to help identify risks upfront and notify sales of any risk of delivery or potential quality or delivery issues.

Estimating & Job Standards

  • Works closely with estimator and production team to ensure that job standards for set up and production are accurate. Works with operations to ensure job standards are maintained and templates are updated to reflect anticipated future resource requirements and job costs. This position will work closely with the estimators, purchasing, and manufacturing to help successfully implement the quote software; Paperless Parts.

Continuous Improvement and ISO 9001

  • Position will play a key role in helping Chapco obtain ISO 9001 certification and help lead effort to instill continuous improvement culture. The engineering manager will work closely with the quality department to build an effective correction active program and develop procedures to ensure consistent work results.

Welding and Assembly Support

  • Support the growth of our weld and assembly services we provide to our diversified customer base. Being familiar with TIG, MIG and spot welding, this roll will help develop procedure and detailed work instructions for our welding department and assist in implementing processes to meet General Dynamics and other military contractors weld requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least five years’ experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on sheet metal, weld, and assembly.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD tools such as Solid Works and CATIA.
  • Experience using BOOST software for Trumpf equipment would be a bonus.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Five or more years’ experience with ISO 9001 and engineering change processes.
  • Passionate advocate of continuous improvement programs
  • Always professional and patient. Comfortable dealing directly with customers and resolving any potential conflicts.
  • Teamwork- Ability to coordinate with all departments and help ensure company objectives are achieved

Reporting Structure-Reports directly to Chief Operating Officer

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises several manufacturing engineers which could include some project management responsibilities. It is not anticipated that this role would require new product design or any direct involvement in electrical engineering. Any new product design will be managed through the engineering team supporting our sister division.
