The role of Process / Applications Engineer III is responsible for engineering support for project concept development, new business opportunities and new design by performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to, process analysis, process design, ASME code calculations, technical completion of instrument and vessel data sheets, interpretation of project specifications, and economic analysis.

The candidate will perform conceptual engineering and design of RFQ packages by providing estimating and project management with a clearly defined project scope of work. This project scope of work will be used to estimate potential business opportunities and execute current opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer inquiries and specifications using a broad range of process mechanical and instrumentation engineering capabilities to recommend process or equipment designs for the application.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat & material balances (H&MB), preliminary piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment data sheets, and additional engineering documents for cost estimating and front-end engineering design.
  • Size and specify major equipment packages and long-lead items, including heat exchangers, pumps, and instrumentation for vendor quotation.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams—including estimating, operations, management, vendors, stakeholders, and SMEs—to develop comprehensive project scopes and detailed estimates.
  • Prepare detailed technical and commercial package proposals for internal and external customers, ensuring clear definition of scope of supply, equipment performance requirements, warranty conditions, and delivery commitments.
  • Perform engineering evaluations and technical feasibility studies related to new business development opportunities.
  • Interfaces with outside providers of engineering services to support work effort as needed.
  • Continually develops proficiency in software packages such as those used for process simulation, commercial estimation, and ASME code calculations.
  • Assists Sales Team to provide technical perspective to customers for unique applications.
  • Provide engineering guidance and hands-on support to less experienced engineers.

Qualifications / Education / Experience


The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering.
  • 7-12 years of experience in mechanical, package, process, or applications engineering in the design of oil field equipment and facilities is required.
  • Solid operations and/or design experience with Natural Gas Treating and Condensate Processing including Amine Units, TEG Dehydration, Condensate Stabilization, Dewpoint Control Plants, Molecular Sieves, and Slug Catchers.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and engineering of natural gas compressor stations along with turn-key compressor station projects.
  • Strong command of general oil and gas processing industry principles and calculations.
  • Advanced proficiency in developing and designing process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances (H&MB), and preliminary piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Proficient with computer modeling software. (BR&E Promax is )
  • Strong working knowledge of control valve and pressure relief valve sizing and selection is required.
  • Understanding of ASME pressure vessels is required.
  • Instrument design experience and understanding is required.
  • Proficient with computer ASME code calculation software. (Codeware COMPRESS is )
  • Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills involving a broad array of engineering disciplines and organizational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work alone or as a part of a team.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • The role is fully in person with no remote work allowed.
  • We are not sponsoring H1B Visa’s
  • We are considering only local candidates for this position. No relocation is being offered to the candidate.
  • Limited travel for client meetings and project commissioning.

Occasional trips to shop environments may include exposure to dust, dirt and forklift traffic.


Work Schedule

Spitzer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed. Work schedules may change to accommodate production needs.
