Job Title: Process Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: V.P. of Engineering

Position Status: Indirect

FLSA Status: Salary Exempt

Work Hours: 7:30AM – 4:00PM

SUMMARY

Responsible for engineering functions related to shop safety and process continuous improvement, operations documentation, and repair process development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned on an as-needed basis.

  • Create detailed instructions for inspection, repair and assembly of gas turbine engines and power turbines.
  • Develop new and/or improved tooling for engine and power turbine shop maintenance.
  • Develop repair and/or modification schemes for specialized engine and power turbine shop tooling.
  • Provide technical/process leadership to Operations personnel as required.
  • Create component and tooling drawings and blueprints.
  • Create and maintain assembly operation sheets.
  • Develop salvage repairs for engine and power turbine parts.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by management.
  • Solve departmental problems.
  • Train personnel in the proper use of manufacturer’s technical data.
  • Ensure that personnel are complying with WGP&W established safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area and adhere to all housekeeping requirements. Follow all safety procedures and rules and properly wear all safety protective equipment as required.
  • Conduct oneself in a businesslike manner with a spirit of teamwork.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in English, both written and oral to the level of producing technical reports, written work instructions and technical presentations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.
  • Must have good technical publication and professional writing skills.
  • Ability to apply the concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and college-level math as they relate to dimensional restoration of gas turbine components, fits and clearances, running positions, etc.
  • Familiarity with 3-D modeling software and the Microsoft Office environment is required.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, document, and use manufacturer’s technical manuals, Service Bulletins, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, assembly drawings, inspection sheets and WGP&W assembly records.
  • Should be familiar with the fundamentals of safe use of special tooling and lift and turn equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or equivalent. Relevant training in an aviation or technical school, military training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • An Airframe & Powerplant License is beneficial, but not required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in an office and workshop environment and may travel to local suppliers to review project status or discuss technical matters.
