JFT is growing and looking for an experienced Process Engineer to join our team in our Loveland, CO office. JFT offers some work from home flexibility, but candidates must be within commuting distance to the office. The anticipated closing date for this posting is 7/31/25 and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Job Function:

The Process Engineer leads the design, analysis, and optimization of thermal-fluid and gas-handling systems in support of nuclear and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working in regulated environments and a strong background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and process safety. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, controls, and fabrication teams.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and evaluate nuclear and radiological process systems, including fluid, gas, chemical, and thermal.
  • Develop and validate PFDs and P&IDs for high-temperature liquid metal systems, compressed gas networks, and inert atmosphere chambers.
  • Perform heat and mass balance calculations for molten sodium loops, furnace systems, and cooling skids.
  • Specify and select process equipment including valves, regulators, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Lead hazard analyses and support licensing documentation for nuclear-adjacent work.
  • Lead process troubleshooting and root cause investigations for system anomalies or failures.
  • Work closely with fabricators and technicians during system build and commissioning phases.
  • Support control system logic development in coordination with automation and electrical engineers.
  • Analyze system performance data and implement improvements or modifications as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME B31.3, B31.1, API, NFPA, and relevant DOE or NRC guidelines.
  • Interface with clients, regulatory bodies and project stakeholders to support design review and approvals.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear, or Process Engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in process design or operations, preferably in nuclear, chemical, or energy industries.
  • Hands-on experience with compressed gas systems and high-temperature molten metal systems.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols for reactive metals and inert environments.
  • Proficient in process modeling and drafting tools: Aspen HYSYS, COMSOL, Mathcad, AutoCAD P&ID, Autodesk.
  • Working knowledge of pressure system codes and materials suitable for extreme temperature and chemical compatibility.
  • Professional Engineer or working towards achieving.
  • Experience in design and testing of systems in nuclear or radiological environments.
  • Possess basic business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work with export-controlled items.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically under 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems may also be necessary.

Typical Working Conditions: Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.
