Process Development Engineer in San Francisco
Job DescriptionRole overview
Aeolus works at the frontier of atmospheric state modeling, sensing, and intervention. We are curious by nature, collaborative, and ambitious.
We are seeking a Process Development Engineer to join our particle dispersion technology team. You will be responsible for the design and development of a major unit operation from concept through commercial scales. Come help us bring this groundbreaking technology to the world.
Key responsibilities
- Design and scale up solids feed, heat transfer, fluids control, and monomer distribution systems
- Develop practical process operating windows through experimentation and computational modeling, where appropriate
- Establish system robustness, design a maintenance program, and prepare for field operations
- Collaborate with the aircraft engineering team to design systems against aerodynamic, thermal, electrical, and mass requirements
- Support field trials and experimentation
- Conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigations during development cycles
- Document design rationale, test protocols, and process specifications for manufacturing handoff
Required qualifications
- BS in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial process design, build, scale-up, or manufacturing engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with any of the following: high-temperature process chemistry, reactor design, high-temperature thermal transfer fluids, continuous solids feeding systems, corrosion mitigation, or high-velocity gas mixing
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on cross-functional engineering problems and drive developmental progress through uncertainty elimination
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to interface with teams in aircraft integration, atmospheric science, cloud microphysics, atmospheric sensing, government affairs, and related areas
- Comfort with experimental strategy, analytical design, instrumentation, and translating data into decisions
qualifications
- Demonstrated lead experience with at least one complete design-build-decide cycle
- Familiarity with aircraft or aerospace operations, such as flight ops, certification, power budgets, or vibration environments
- Understanding of micron- and nanometer-scale particle chemistry, characterization, and dynamics
