Process Development Engineer (Paris)

This is a climate-tech company developing electrochemical technology that converts industrial CO2 emissions into sustainable chemicals, aiming to displace fossil fuels in chemical production. The Mission
The company is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Process Development Engineer to join the team at a pivotal phase of transition from R&D to industrial piloting and early commercial deployment.
The company is looking for a process engineer with real industrial-scale experience (rather than a pure R&D or academic background) who can bring a critical, hands-on, plant-minded perspective to process design and de-risk the path to commercial scale. The role involves working closely with the principal process engineer, splitting time roughly 70/30 between process simulation/design and hands-on experimental work, with the experimental share increasing to roughly 50% during key testing campaigns.
Key responsibilities:
- Simulate, model, and optimize process flowsheets (notably using Aspen Plus) to support process design and de-risking decisions
- Benchmark and screen candidate technologies, and engage directly with technology suppliers to identify and validate solutions
- Scope, follow up, and steer external technical and experimental studies run by suppliers and engineering partners
- Contribute hands-on to pilot/skid-scale experimental campaigns (e.g. purification skids, evaporators), particularly during peak testing periods
- Work in close, day-to-day partnership with the principal process engineer to translate research-stage thinking into industrially robust process designs
- Bring an industrial/operations mindset to challenge and stress-test process choices against real plant constraints
Candidates with a minimum of three years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply (experience levels up to 10–12 years will also be considered for a more senior scope). The role requires being based in, or open to relocating to, the location above)
Abilities and expertise sought
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of process engineering experience gained in an industrial setting (large industrial group strongly preferred)
- Profiles from pure academic R&D, technology licensors, or EPC contractors are not the primary fit for this role
- Profiles with R&D experience embedded within a large industrial group, particularly in a technical support-to-operations capacity, are a strong fit
- Strong command of Aspen Plus for process simulation and optimization
- Domain expertise in one of the following is a strong plus:
- Liquid organic chemicals (alcohols, carboxylic acids) with experience in purification and separation processes, notably distillation columns
- Syngas handling and treatment, including PSA, cryogenic separation, drying
- Ore refining/processing (lithium, nickel, bauxite) with experience extracting metal oxides from mined rock
- Hands-on comfort with experimental and pilot/skid-scale work
- Strong fluency in English, with the ability to work closely and effectively in a tight-knit technical pairing
- Good project management skills: planning, coordination, supplier follow-up, and milestone tracking
- A genuine appetite for moving from a paper-based idea to real, industrial-scale execution
