Principal Embedded Systems Engineer

Onsite Austin TX

Candidates must be US or eligible to work on H-1B visa

Stelvio Group is working with a high-growth technology business operating at the intersection of embedded systems, IoT, and transportation technology. They are looking to appoint a Principal Embedded Systems Engineer to play a critical role in scaling next- sensor platforms used in demanding, real-world environments.

This is a senior, hands-on role with genuine technical influence. The position can evolve into a leadership path or remain deeply technical, depending on the individual.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architect, design, and implement firmware for next- IoT sensor platforms
• Lead development of ultra-low-power strategies for battery-powered, remote devices
• Own and optimise wireless communication stacks, including LoRa and BLE
• Design and refine signal filtering and processing solutions for noisy, industrial environments
• Define firmware architecture and system-level requirements in collaboration with hardware and product teams
• Debug and resolve complex system-level issues across hardware and firmware boundaries
• Establish and enforce best practices around code quality, testing, and documentation
• Influence the technical roadmap by evaluating and introducing emerging embedded and IoT technologies
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience

• 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, ideally within IoT or sensor-driven products
• Deep expertise in low-power embedded systems deployed in production environments
• Strong experience with LoRa and BLE, including performance tuning and protocol optimisation
• Proven experience implementing OTA update mechanisms on embedded devices
• Proficiency in C/C++ on embedded platforms (e.g. ARM Cortex-M)
• Experience working with RTOS and bare-metal systems (Zephyr exposure is a plus)
• Strong background in RF systems, including antenna tuning and large-scale deployments
• Advanced debugging skills using oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and JTAG tools

Highly Valued

• Experience with Cellular CAT M-1 and NB-IoT
• Familiarity with Nordic platforms and associated SDKs
• Background in vibration analysis, signal processing, or predictive maintenance systems
• Proven ability to deliver complex projects end-to-end in resource-constrained environments
